If you still hate Futcher
Fox Talbot Walsall away 0-6 was 1986 - the year we won Div Three

Went for a beer in the town before the game. It was last time I ever went into a packed out pub in which there were absolutely no female customers. The North. We were crap that day. I guess we were 10 points clear at the top so we could afford it.

I thought it was around Nov 85 but I defer to your better memory - I do remember it being bloody cold. The reason given for us being crap was that about half to 75% of the squad had the flu'.

Your mentioning a pub just jogged a memory of a trip to Huddersfield - a group of 7-8 of us are looking for a pre-match drink and find a couple of pubs next to each other, one looking a bit run down and the other not too bad, so we go into the better kept of the 2.

I order a round of drinks, pay for them and as I'm stood at the bar taking the first swig my eyeline rises to where I see above the bar all manner of leather caps (ala Village People) and photos of bare chested Freddie Mercury lookalikes.

Needless to say I downed my pint in 1 go and then walk over to the table where my mates have congregated saying quietly "Drink up, we're leaving" and drawing their attention to the "display" above the bar. 5 minutes later we're over the road in the other pub playing pool.

I must've banished the experience from memory as I have no recollection of the game either although I remember it being a sunny day and I think we were wearing the yellow-red hooped shirts

Phew! That was a narrow escape from, errrr, nothing really.

Losing 4.1 at Bristol Rovers on a very hot August day. No idea when it was ( late90s??) but I remeber Michael Meaker was playing. Decided to leave early and walked into the local firm who invited us for a drink in the nearest pub. We declined their kind offer and hurried to my car. Then they all piled round the corner and we all shat ourselves. I ran for my oxf*rd life!! Found Police who came back with me only to find they had kicked my car in.
Police offered to take us to the pub to identify them. We declined and got the oxf*rd out of there. So pretty shit day really..

Cardiff City away at Ninian Park on new years day -'94 i think.
Post NYE hangover to contend with.
Got gubbed 3-0 and there were the most head cases per capita that I've seen in a football stadium.

In addition to the Walsall comments, Fellows Park had to be one of the worst grounds i visited, absolute rat hole.

there are a few away games stand out for me all with West Ham - first was my first ever away game at The Dell back in 1987 arrived at Southampton station with out the remotest clue where to go walked around untill finally finding my way to the ground following some other West Ham fans after a good couple of miles walk then find apart from a few pubs selling no food there was no where to go and get some thing to eat a miserable day was made complete as we got walloped 4-0.

Coventry away was another fairly miserable afternoon the old Highfield Road ground being miles from the station I only got there by taking a taxi after a 2-1 defeat I got hopelessly lost trying to find my way back to the station I was by now feeling very upset and was looking for a police station to go in and ask for help when I finally spotted a bus with rail station on .

my 3rd worst away day was at Swindon, a Sunday kick off on a freezing cold January met at the station by the police and frog marched to the ground no one was allowed near the town centre no where to get anything to eat round the ground which was a dump the open ended terrace had about one sit down toilet and the game ended in an awful 0-0 draw.

I'll be the first one to bite, but this is a Reading forum not a West Ham one. :!:

Reading 0 - 1 Chelsea (Lampard)

Sat in the north stand for this and had to put up with some bloke in front of me in his 50s foaming at the mouth and flailing his arms around like a 5 year old as he believed Chelsea were cheating. Then there was the moronic people with diving score cards in the East Stand - they then started singing 'divers' followed by a very camp diving action. If I was a Reading fan I would have walked out the ground with embarrassment.

Gilkes hit late winner, the Away end collectively shat its pants. Only time at a game i was convinced i was in for a bloody good hiding.
was that the one were the fan ran on and tried to wallop gilkes?
No, it was the one where 6000 of them went for him.

Anyone go the the Bristol City home game in 84? Only just recalled that one, and for a good reason. That was a proper nasty experience, easily the worst at Elm Park that i saw. They ripped up the town end, flying concrete was the order of the day.
Wasn't this when they brought thousands on the trains and ran amock through the town?
Thats the one. As Danny Dyer would say it got proper nasty. Terry Cooper the City manager had to come out after the players had been taken off to call for calm. He was prepared to concede the game unless the trouble stoped.

Oxford Road was like a war zone police on hoarse back, cop vans going up and down sirens on, helicopters above. I remember that motorcycle City had all the bikes pushed over, fans jumping on the cars. I ended up running through Battle hospital to escape the carnage.

Wolves away anytime is quite horrible but the Play Off first leg as mentioned earlier in the thread was the most unpleasant ever.

Worst overall through probably has to the 6-1 home defeat against Palace in 96. Reading were awful that day just awful.

It was the day of the Omagh bombing. I also lost a tooth in the Three Guineas.
