My Dad was at that one - Doncaster unbeaten at home all season, Reading unbeaten away all season and it was one of the last games of the season with both sides gunning for promotion. He also recalls the Donny fans coming down the pitch towards the away end after the game and making a rather hasty exit
Ha!, I wasn't going to mention the Donny fans frothing at the mouth! Like you say, it was the whole setting to the game, both near the top, we were beaten 7-5 the year before with Kerry Dixon scoring 4 and still on the losing side. It was kind of like the ultimate 'pissed on their chips' match!
The real bonus was that the old Belle Vue ground was the other side of the road to Doncaster racecourse with easy parking and an easy escape. That game was unforgettable!
