No need to make silly changes and start playing people out of position at this stage of the season.

McCarthy
Gunter - Pearce - Mariappa - Harte
Kebe (if at all possible) - Guthrie - Legs - McAnuff
Pog - Le Fondre

Or alternatively,

McCarthy
Gunter - Pearce - Mariappa - Harte
Guthrie - Legs - Karacan
Roberts - Pog - Le Fondre

McCarthy

Gunter
Pearce
Mariappa
Shorey

McCleary
Leigertwood
Guthrie
McAnuff - would love him to be dropped for Robson-Kanu but let's be realistic, Jobi would have to be on crutches for McDermott not to pick him (and even then I wouldn't be surprised if he was still in the team).

Le Fondre

Purely going on the unwritten rule that any player playing against his old club will score in the game. So at least then we've made it 1-1....

Gorkss made some glaring mistakes. Though I imagine it was the time away, if Mariappa's going to get a chance, may as well be now. Still don't understand what all the fuss is about McAnuff. If you watch the game as a whole and think 'Did I see him with the ball much?" >> No >> He should be replaced, then I can understand. But if watch him specifically and consider how he plays, e.g. passing, composure, defensive help, conter-attack, then I don't understand.

So, a centre back at right back and a right back at left back? Good plan.

mariappa can also play right back, however u can play shorey/cummings left back i guess, harte is in the team for his left foot he has very rarely used it for good effect so far this season

Two up front please. Whatever the league dictates, we just don't play a good 4-5-1.

Two religiously holding mids can cope with a 3 man central midfield where one is attacking. Use the wingers to create and stick two in the box. Keep it simple, brave and the way we are used to.

I like it, and I'm inclined that way, but I worry that's a rather inexperienced and heavily changed back 5 what with McCarthy playing his 2nd PL game, Shorey playing his first game back for us and Mariappa playing his first game for us. I'm not overly impressed with Gorkss this season and Harte's in need of his yearly motivational drop but both at the same time would worry me a bit.

Then again, get it out the way.

It was the tactics that weren't spot on against spurs, not the personnel.
So we've lost to chelsea and spurs, hardly a surprise. We've had 3 tough games, would have been nice to have more points, but it's games like this one coming where we need to be looking for a realistic 3 points.
I prefer 4-4-2, but i'm old school. Formations don't make too much difference at the end of the day. You still have 10 behind the ball when under pressure regardless of formation.
I'd go with;
Feds (if fit)
Gunter/ Cummings, Pearce, Gorkks, Harte
McCleary, Karacan, Legs, McAnuff
Pog, Le Fondre

I'm confused by people suggesting Feds, when McDermott has already ruled him out. Even with the caveat if fit - which we've already been told he isn't (fully).

So long as it's 4-4-2 so we cross the halfway line with more than 1-2 players I'll be happy.
