4-1-3-2 is the way to go.

Davezk So long as it's 4-4-2 so we cross the halfway line with more than 1-2 players I'll be happy.

There are a number of options in defence, not only is it difficult to say which is best, but also what Brian will chose.
I would go with -

McCarthy

Gunter-Pearce-Mariappa-Harte/Shorey

But it could also be -

Gunter-Pearce-Gorkss-Shorey

Or it could even be -

Mariappa/Cummings-Pearce-Gorkss-Gunter/Shorey

Who knows?

But the rest of the team should be -

McCleary-Guthrie-Leigertwood-McAnuff

Pogrebnyak-Le Fondre

Some quality posts in here - RFCSPACE leaving out McCleary in both his suggestions, and marcusopp leaving out Guthrie in his.

Can't see it being much different to:

------------McCarthy

Gunter--Pearce--Gorkss--Shorey

McCleary--Karacan--Guthrie--Jobi

------------Pog--Alf

I'd like to see Mariappa, Roberts and Kebe - but they'll be on the bench at most.

this season is showing already that we cannot have a left back in the team soley for the quality of his set pieces if he is getting beaten for pace in every attack, likewise we cannot play 5 in midfield if someone is not going to drop in and protect the back four from runs coming from midfield. we need to revert to a 4-4-2 and we need to hold up the plaoy further up field, buy us time to build the attacks up.

for me, mccarthy did not do alot wrong and probably deserves to stay between the sticks, we need to get shorey into the left back position for the little extra pace he has. one of karacan and legs needs to be dropped as i think Guthrie has been our creative element coming from midfield.

would not mind either roberts or ALF upfront to fill the second striker position....just so long as church is at home listening to the game on the radio

I would personally keep Legs in ahead of Karacan at the moment. Ok the stats show that Karacan covers the most ground out of almost anyone in the premier league, however this is not always a good thing and often leaves him way out of position.

Shorey has to come in for Harte, for too many reasons to list!

ALF must be wondering what he has to do to get a start and I would certainly give him the shirt alongside Progrebnyak on Saturday. 4-5-1 is too risky against any team with the midfield and defence that we have, we've got to push higher up the field.

McCarthy will clearly start in goal and deserves it.

Couldn't have put it better myself, well said sir.

Why are people still picking Gunter? He's been shite really. Give Cummings a go.

Harte has to be dropped and not sure that I would want to replace both full backs in the same game.

we were far too defensive against spurs - if we're gonna go down let's go down fighting:

McCarthy

Mariappa
Pearce
Gorkks

Robson-Kanu
McAnuff
Karacan
Guthrie
McLeary

Pog
Le Fondre

Or is that overkill?

He was shit against Spurs, I can't remember a single cross staying in play, let alone in the box. Apart from one cross to Pog against Chelsea, and a lot of running, I'm not that impressed. If we wanted a completely inconsistent player that can run past people and screw it up at the last moment, we've already got the master in that position, therefore Jimmy needs to play if fit.

No need for knee jerk reaction.
Spurs and Chelsea are both quality teams and we were out played by one and mugged by the other.
The out playing can be put down to the 25 day lay off as we were not at the races. The start of the second half when Alf was introduced shout give us heart.
On the Subject of Harte he needs to be dropped and Shorey given a start - Reading boy returns against Baggies and all that. Get back to 4.4.2 keep it simple, get in their faces play higher tempo and up the pitch and we will do better.

Don't get greedy, let's start with the middle third.

It wasn't necessarily serious, in fact, it wasn't. But it's an interesting line-up nonetheless.

4-4-2 for me in truth... and give most of the players another chance to prove what they can do - just not sure which two central midfielders to go for.

------------McCarthy

Gunter--Pearce--Gorkss--Shorey

McCleary--Ledge--Guthrie--Jobi

-------------Pog--Alf

Bench: Hunt, Church, Karacan, Robson-Kanu, Marriappa, Harte, Taylor

I don't think Roberts and Kebe will be fit, but they'd be in the squad if they were.

If everyone is fit this should solve our slow full back and goal scoring problem out...
