Maguire Just seen MOTD

Great save for the goal

See i still think it was very soft goal for him to concede as it was straight down the middle - could understand if it took a deflection but it didn't. I know the defenders should have thrown themselves in front of the shot but if McC was in the middle of his goal then he would have just to bend down and pick it up

I think he saw it very late - it came through 3 pairs of legs. Not perfect, but certainly not a clanger - and his only blemish on an otherwise pretty-much faultless performance.

Royal Lady I wonder if De Gea stomped off and spouted off about loyalty when he was dropped for today's United match?

It's rather telling that Feds has been silent for a week now. If he'd said from the beginning that he wanted to distance himself from his girlfriend and her sister's tweets or something, I'd have more respect for him. His silence on the subject now speaks volumes to me.

Good job you aren't his advisor. What this has taught him is to say nothing. Best that way.

ManchesterRoyals
McCarthy should stay, do we def know feds is injured ?

Grey area. :D

The difficulty for Anthony and McDermott is how to know whether a player's hiding an injury. The consequences for a goalie of losing your place in a team are so high (you may never get back in) that you could understand them keeping quiet about niggles. The challenge then for Anthony is to evaluate whether the goalkeeping errors are due to issues with ease of movement. If Anthony even thinks that might be the case, then Brian has to act on it. In this case, both sides could be in the right. Fed, if he isn't injured; Brian, because he has made a decision that might be for the good of the team. If it turns out that Feds has no injury, it was still the right decision to have him rested and checked for one--it's a percentage call.

Or, put another way, yes we know for sure that Feds has an injury. We don't know how serious it is and if it affects his performances in games.

Yeah i know he saw it late but the fact is, he still had to dive towards the middle of the goal.......he should have been positioned there, especially considering where the striker was stood

It's all very well saying 'he could have done this and this', but at a moment's notice you have to make a decision. It was late sighted, so no blame can be pinned on McCarthy.

He made the wrong decision which resulted in a goal

Same as Feds against Stoke and Chelsea

Not sure how he made the wrong decision.

His positioning is spot on, he's seen it late and had little time to react and nearly saved it. The shot is actually in a difficult position because it is going under his body.

You cannot compare it to the Federici mistakes, because simply, they were terrible blunders.

Still can't help but think McCarthy is a bit of a twat off the field though.

Much rather Andersen out of all our keepers.

Why do you think he is a twat?

Surprised no one has mentioned the McCarthy punch out. He should have caught what was a relatively catch for a keeper. Could have proved costly. If that was Feds he would have got slaughtered on here.
What with the goal he conceded, I personally am not convinced that McCarthy is the better of the pair.

Not at all - he was blocked from getting to the ball by two defenders, so the punch was all he had as an option. I call that damn good judgement.

That's more than a little generous there Dirk.

I wouldn't say he was blocked out, and even if he was, it was by his own defenders so he could've got them out of the way and there was no forward in there to challenge either. He should've caught it, but as it was early'ish in the game I can understand the punch and wouldn't say it was a mistake as such but he certainly could/should have caught it.

How did he not save it - it was coming straight towards him........if he saw it late, sure why did he move to his right - surely he would have stood where he was
