When i was a kid before my Dad started taking me to Reading games i used to look through the Panini sticker book and one day chose "my team" - that team was Charlton........cos i liked the sword on their badge

See my old man grew up watching Brentford, he even went on to play for them in the 60's.........but at around 30 [years old] he moved down to Reading and started watching us play - he got himself a season ticket and has been going ever since. He now classes himself as a Reading fan, knows everything about them - still looks out for Brentford but ask him to name their starting XI and he'll struggle.

^ yeah I think there are a number of people with shifting loyalties much the same as that.

My Dad has followed/supported Villa, Saints and Reading - friends, family and geographic location being a much stronger attachment for him than any 'feeling' for a club

We got 4,000 more and our fans come from all over Surrey.

Maybe the City fans who travelled to Spain last week and then had another game on Sunday just couldn't afford it whereas for those in the affluent south money may not be a consideration.
Out of interest why do you never go to games?.
