Guthrie

by Stuboo » 29 Sep 2012 18:33

From Guthrie's Twitter today:

danny guthrie‏@dannyguthrie20

Great point today and performance from the boys - for those asking I'm bitterly disappointed not to play

danny guthrie‏@dannyguthrie20

I'm trying to fit into the direct style of play the manager wants and I pass to much at the minute which is my best asset

danny guthrie‏@dannyguthrie20

I understand what the manger wants but stopping habits like going and getting the ball of the back 4 is difficult

What do you think about Guthrie?

That's fine mate. I just think it shows an interesting insight into how Brian wants the team to play and Guthrie's mindset. But thanks for the constructive feedback.

At least he's not demanding to play and getting his wife to tweet for him.

It could easily be interpreted as a moan from the player though, so it's a good thing he followed those tweets up with 'its all about the team'

He has a good attitude and he'll fit in, he's a great passer it he could up the tempo he'd be first on the team sheet easily.

All fair and interesting comments, I think he's slightly wondering what he's done wrong, which is nothing of course.

I think he's a good player and adds to the team. He wants to do well and the fact he is disappointed at being dropped shows that he cares. I would like to see him stop shouting at the other players when he is annoyed at a mistake and instead be more supportive and encouraging of them. He'll fit better into the team the more games he plays.

I doubt it. It's only an opinion and he is showing he's accepting McDermott's views on his style of play. The team either need to adapt to him or he refines his play.

So does "high tempo" equate to "direct style" :?:

I don't agree. We've always played with wingers and at a fast pace. Kebe for example. It's not direct.

And I thought he had such a good start against Stoke.

I still think he could work well with Ledge given time, but then you''re sacrificing Karacan.

Mind you, with Pearce (and not Gorkks) getting chopped today, stranger things have happened...

if it aint broke dont fix it, which i believe the case to be with jem and legs, guthrie is not going to fit in 4-4-2, if we go 1 up top then maybe he can play off striker

I'm not sure what he is referring to in this bit:

I'm trying to fit into the direct style of play the manager wants and I pass to much at the minute which is my best asset

What doesn he mean by I pass too much at the minute? I can't imagine Brian asking a player to pass less, unless he is talking about the manager wanting him to hold on to the ball longer and run with the ball. But that seems the opposite of being direct. ???

Must confess I was relieved that he'd been dropped today(as were the rest of my family who are bored with me moaning about him). Can understand Brian putting him in the team having signed him but Karacan and Ledge had such a good partnership last season . Think having Jem back helped Ledge as well.
