If you didn't support Reading who would you support and why?

by Stuboo » 02 Oct 2012 02:03

For me it would be a choice between the three below.

Slough Town - If I was to choose a team based on where I grew up (oh dear)
Brentford - If I was to choose a team based on who my Dad supports
Tottenham - If I was to choose a team based on which team I liked most as a kid

What about you?

Up to the age of 9 I lived in Kent and Bryan Robson was my favorite player so Man Utd was my team. Switched to reading over 25 years ago, so if I dodnlt support Reading I would be a Man U plastic.

Probably Inter Milan...being of Italian ancestry and all. :D

But if it was a British club it would prolly be Fulham or Everton for their American connections.

Born and brought up near Highbury by an Arsenal mad family.

Nürnberg. Parents have many friends there who we visited often when I was a kid. Nürnberg vs Greuther Furth was my first football match, and I loved the experience, what with it being a local derby 'n all. Still follow them as a second team and go to as many games as possible when in Germany.

Or maybe Sheffield Wednesday. I have a friend from Sheffield, a really wonderful young woman who is attending Oxford and could rule the world one day if she wants to and has really good taste in music to boot (plus she gave me a key ring with the City of Sheffield coat of arms on it which I am using to this day) :D , so it could be one of the Sheffield clubs...and since I like owls.

Crystal Palace, for being the local team. Instead I grew up desperate for them to lose every game. Now I've moved away and we're not in their division I'm starting to get a soft spot for them, but there was a point when I was 14/15 when all my high school friends supported them, and I'd have been happy for Reading to get relegated with 6 points as long as those 6 points came against Palace.

I was a Chelsea fan since I was 3 years old until about 2004 (33 years) when Chelsea became too expensive. I'm born and bred in Reading and always supported them as a "second team". Started going to Reading in 2004 and haven't looked back since. I guess I was one of the plastic fans 8 years ago but you've got to start somewhere. Have been a season ticket holder for 4 seasons now. If I wasn't Reading i'd still be Chelsea.

Stevenage because I used to live there and have been many times. But I also have a softspot for Millwall and have also been many times, particually when I briefly lived in Peckham. On balace these days I'd probably say Millwall as it's easiest to get to and near the legendary Manzes pie & mash shop.

Hmm...Farnborough (Town) FC probably - first club and home town. Or Spurs - Dad's club.

Shouldn't this thread be titled - which other team do you support apart from Reading?

Chelsea as they're my Dad's team...I did support them when I was a kid. Not much football loyalty in my family, my dad's dad was an Arsenal fan

Although if Reading dissapered overnight I would probably support a smallish London club

Brighton, as I live here. Go to quite a few games each season as tickets are easy to come by and know a fair few people that go.

They also have a good crowd that like to sing. IMO you get a better atmosphere at the Amex

Doubt I'd support anyone to be honest (other than England).

I was never into football at all other than watching the occasional international on the telly, but then I accidentally got into supporting Reading which turned me into a football fan in general. But if I hadn't started supporting Reading (being my local team) I doubt I would have started supporting one further afield.

Probably Southampton, growing up in Guernsey and seeing our "Le God" banging them in week in week out meant I had a soft spot for them at the time - which I can safely say I no longer have. Uncle is an Arsenal STH too.
