Football clubs always think they're hard done by.

The worst case scenario I can think of where clubs were hard done by was when Liverpool's fans behaviour stopped various other clubs from competing in Europe.

Neither were handball. Mariappa's arm by his side exactly where it's supposed to be and he was trying to get his chest down to it. Shorey turning away from the ball with the hand it hit tucked in behind his body.

Definitive? My stream was shti when it happened. Looked like it went off Shorey's face.

Not many stories out there on NewsNow (compared to Ba's last week) so I'm guessing Swansea don't feel too cheated.

Looked like it clipped his shoulder first to me, but my stream was also crap. But good enough to see there was zero intent and zero dodgy about his arm position.

I think the pummeling we took all match which finished 2-2 is a balance of luck. Should've been 6-1 today. Worst performance this season. On a real downer.

This thread is about the balance of luck. Both of our goals took a massive slice of it, so when it comes to sheer skill, neither should have stood. On balance, Jem's effort was amazing and that's my one.

I've been monumentally positive so far this season, and i still think we'll stay up, but the performance today is really pushing it, especially after the positives from the Newcastle match.

Chelsea lost to an offside goal today, so for their balance that cancels out the plus one against us.. Although at no benefit to us

No reason it should - move on!

The thing with these sort of discussions is that when you look back on a fixture, you very rarely remember the moments that go for you, only that those that go against, hence the self-perpetuating point of "we never get any luck/big decisions always go against us". It isn't, it's just that those are more memorable as they are wrongs. Now I see there's a couple of "live" posts from the Swansea match but otherwise today we might not remember the Shorey handball as a decision that went in our favour.

The other point is that if you are one of the stronger teams in the division, you are going to be attacking for more of the game so on balance of play are likely to get more decisions round the box, more penalties, more offside goals, because you are creating a lot more opportunities for these to happen over the course of a game, as opposed to a relegation candidate who may only make it in to the opposition box a few times a game, so the chance of picking up a cheap penalty are much reduced due to the infrequency of the opportunity for this to happen.

-4 minutes added, yet arsenal score at 95:50

Perhaps we'll call the phantom goal at Watford even now and start again.

Things probably won't even themselves out, but it's not really to do with a bigger club bias as such. Considering alot of the games recently the opposition have dominated possession and the ball is in our own third alot more than the oppositions, it's just common sense that they will get more decisions go their way. If the ball is in our own third for say 35% of the time, and the oppositions for 15% then its obvious they've got a better chance of getting a lucky offside call, handball or penalty decision. You create your own luck, and the better clubs will get more decisions going their way because of that.

It's one of the reasons why I can't stand it when we just sit behind the ball and make no attempt to pass it about or attack, as it just increases the chance of a mistake or the opposition getting a lucky decision. As they say, attack is the best form of the defence...
