PBR why are Israel in UEFA?

Due to the Arab–Israeli conflict, several Asian states refused to compete against Israel. The political situation culminated in Israel winning the 1958 World Cup qualifying stage for Asia and Africa without playing a single game. Subsequently they applied under FIFA advice to try UEFA, and after a vote they were allowed in.

So ask the Arabs.

They had to play Wales in a play off in ''58 which they lost. This was also the only time Wales ever qualified for the finals. Before their time in UEFA they also spent time in the Oceania Confederation.

Yeah they were never thrown out, and indeed they were happy to remain in the Asian confederation.

Poland is in Central Europe.........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Europe

The UN disagrees, as do I.

Have you actually read the article you quote?

"The assignment of countries or areas to specific groupings is for statistical convenience and does not imply any assumption regarding political or other affiliation of countries or territories by the United Nations. Rather than being geographically correct, the United Nations' definition encompasses all the states which were once under the Soviet Union's realm of influence and were part of the Warsaw Pact."

Try the first paragraph of this........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poland

Yeh I read it, for the avoidance of doubt it's the United Nations Statistics Division I'm referring to.

Not sure why you're now quoting another article back at me, the original one does indicate there are different definitions.

btw "non geographically correct" is quite a good way of putting it, culturally, economically and historically they are often seen as more aligned to the East than to the centre of Europe.

Its important to note the UN doesn't recognize the existence of a central Europe at all. Which at this point is probably the correct tact to take as central Europe itself can't even decide what it is.

Northern Ireland 1-0 up in Portugal.

Another big shock of the evening saw Ireland beat the Faroe Islands.

Ok, so why not close it early afternoon and the game will go ahead regardless? well er, um, we talked earlier to Mr Mannering, Pike and Jonesy and they assured us everything would be fine.

Watched the Germany v Sweden game instead, much better entertainment than we would have got from Poland this evening. Incredible comeback with Sweden 4-0 down, coming back to 4-4.

Reading striker Jason Roberts took to Twitter to back Rose, who is on loan at Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur.

"Well done Danny Rose. I stand right beside you," tweeted Roberts.

In another message, Roberts added: "We demand to be treated with respect. We are not asking. NOW, not tomorrow. I am fuming."

Has Kes kicked off on this yet?
