AthleticoSpizz Basically in my little simplistic world

MaccyD is part of our team........they are in it together

This time last year it was shit, a few weeks later it was jolification

We get promoted with him....we get relegated with him (should that be the case)

Fed up with the hire and Fire culture that prevails over football and you the "fans" that kowtow to and seemingly demand it

Good post M8, we are no lost cause yet, and even if we are stick with what we have if the owners believe, in every game there is a winner and losr, and at the end of the season three will go down, thats life.

Harry, guardiola would do but cant see them coming

So who do u think would take the job

 Oh my goodness you're a special case.

How do u work that out?

I can see 339 reasons.

TheSiege
The players mentioned were examples that, at different times, RFC were interested in. Rhodes has more than 3, he scored today and any player can only score in the division they are playing in. You may think a total of 14 goals is insignificant, I think that 14 goals added to our current total - would see us well above the relegation places. Remember, our strikers and midfielders were in the Champ last season and, no-one in the top two-thirds of the field, was a consistent scorer!

Yeah, but what you said was "Imagine Rhodes, Whittingham, Zaha and one of the foreign DM's that we were linked with being in our team from the start of the season - I really doubt we would only have 2pts now! " - implies that we should have added those three, plus one more.

And there's nothing to show that players who can score at Championship level will automatically carry the same number of goals into the PL - the Championship is what, a quarter of the way into their season? It's very simplistic I admit, but if you do a quick "multiply by four", it would suggest that Zaha and Rhodes might get 16 each, Whittingham a bit better - not exactly setting the World on fire...

Your stance all along has been that we should have spent a LOT more than we did this Summer in an attempt to somehow guarantee avoiding relegation.
I, on the other hand, think that the approach that we have taken, one of tactical strengthening but without throwing caution to the wind financially, is a far better approach. We are, and always would have been regardless of spend, in a mini league of six to eight teams fighting to avoid the drop, and oh, look were we are, right in the middle of that pack, all covered by no more than 4 points.

It's understandable that people should worry, but we've just had two tough away trips (in what has generally been a far from easy start to the season), and we got a point......pick up some points against QPR (who we've already beaten this year), Fulham, Norwich, Wigan and Villa and things will look a whole lot better. If we're still in single figures on points come the United game, then I'll start to be a bit more concerned......

that.s the sad thing every time a premiership manager gets sacked it's always the same list of managerial failures being linked with the job and no doubt it will be the same if Mcdermott gets the sack - however now that we have foriegn owners I have a feeling that they will be looking to replace Brian with a foriegn manager.

Moved:

Agree with Pog and Roberts together. Pog, for all he's worth in goals, is utter garbage in the air. Has he got lead boots or what?

Partner him with Roberts and please go back to 4-4-2!!!

Guthrie is a baller. He is the best passer of the ball we have, but he's being told to change his game and "and be more direct" - So he's wasted. Just as Matejovsky was!

One thing that we consistantly struggle with is pace. People running at us. We've got players like that here who can hurt other sides, but we drop them. McCleary wont be as effective in a long-ball team, but when we let him run at players at the start of the season he was causing all sorts of problems. Kebe is a similar player. If they're defending for their lives then you lose that attacking threat.

Tactics need to change. If they don't, BM wont be here for much longer. For the first time yesterday AZ looked unhappy with what we was watching. Normally he's seen looking quite happy. Time is running out.

When TSI were looking to buy the club, no-one thought that a Year later we would be in the Premiership, so my view on this question is simple; even if we get relegated, Brian won't get sacked.

I'm guessing most of those who believe McDermott's days here are numbered also never gave us a prayer of being promoted this time last year, and even in October, see nothing beyond relegation in this campaign.

Part of the Reading way is ignoring East Stand doom mongers.

So how much money have you put on us staying up this year? The odds on offer must be pretty good at present.

And as for what was achieved last year - The Championship was a very different proposition from the PL this season. Many on here fear that the team/squad this season has not changed sufficiently in recognition of that massive difference.

Why do people have to back their views with money?

Many think that we overachieved last season, and we probably did, but all you can do is beat those in the division and see where you get.

AZ will not want to get relegated this season, as getting back is harder than staying up, however he will not throw money at it, so it is softly softly.

Half way stage is Boxing day, by then we might have three wins and just realistically need 7 more to stay up, and loking at the second half we have a good 6 winnable home games as the league stands now.

If Reading do go down, would you accept that Coppell is the better manager?

Have to say, you have been proven spot on with McCarthy/Federici btw

It's not BM who needs to be concerned. It's Anton who will be the first to get the brunt of it if things do not improve.

Ideal If AZ goes and sacks BM that will be the final straw for a lot of people, they won't have further faith in TSI if that happens.

 You really do talk a lot of nonsense.

Final straw? Honestly. I think most sensible fans (yourself excluded) can see we're struggling, and staying up would be fantastic for this club with what TSI 'promises' to invest in the infrastructure over the coming YEARS (not days...).

Managers and players come and go. If he makes the change then so be it.

My contention regarding Coppell is with those who deem him largely blameless for our relegation. Coppell was brilliant at building cheap young sides but his downfall (at Palace as well as here) was in refusing to break up those teams when the time was right.

I think both Pardew and Brian are better managers but the latter needs to establish himself in the top flight to prove the point. Having said that, even if we are relegated this season, I would still see 2007/8 as the bigger failure.................................the squad that finished the previous season would not have been relegated 12 months later under better management.

Ideal
TheSiege Then he sort of repeated that when he hired Rodgers, because he bought into all his egomaniac trumpet blowing.
Rodgers was never a "Big Name", and yep. the guy is a total failure.....just look at him now

Swansea away was painful for 90mins despite us taking a two goal lead. The 1st half yesterday was a continuation of Swansea.

Then all of a sudden we started to pass the ball and get it wide. The reason we got promoted is because B McD reverted back to the 'reading way'. 4-4-2, high tempo football using the flair on the wing and tough tackling in the centre.

Seeing that stat last week that we've played the most long balls in the prem this season is horrible for fans & I imagine Anton too. We have two games at home on sky against Arsenal coming up who will embarrass us if we play 4-5-1 and pile even more pressure on BMcD.

We really lack Premiership experience and still have a fighting Championship team that scraped victories at Watford, Millwall etc last season.

A bit of a ramble but genuinely worried for his future if this continues as there is no way Anton will want to risk us going back down. E.g. QPR last season sacking Warnock. It's a cruel game.

If I were McDermott I would be looking over my shoulder a little after the way we've started.

It's not just the results, and it's not just the performances, but it's the lack of improvement the new signings have made to the side and the general lack of attacking intent/ability we've shown.

Right now this side looks way out of it's depth. We're playing football that was functional in the Championship. It fed of putting teams under pressure and preying on their mistakes. That just isn't really good enough for the Championship usually, let alone the step up to the Premier League. We brought in a couple of good players over the summer which looked like they'd signal a change in style. Instead we're playing them as square pegs in round holes in a style that doesn't suit them. For me it feels like poor management at the moment.

I like McDermott, but there's always been a nagging doubt that he was good with limited players, players he knew and were comfortable with him. The biggest test was going to be building a side with so called 'bigger name players' and the ego's and different challenges that presents.

I'm certainly not giving up on McDermott yet, or calling for his head by a long way, but he does need to prove himself now and get this squad of average players performing much better than they have been.

Absolutely spot on. Highlighted is all we need to know. We had our window and we missed our chance. After Pog & Guthrie we kept waiting, waiting for a few more players of that quality but it never happened. And of all the new players we signed, the large percentage aren't getting a game. What does that say?

Oh and for the record, Noel Hunt is an absolute ass. Cock. Concentrate on your football pal.

@JonnyFordham @readingfcandsdr jonny dont get involved with these idiots they have no idea about football if they did they would be playing!
