Jason Roberts' comments

by mr_number » 24 Oct 2012 09:31

Just because the other thread is a bit redundant now, thought it might be worth flagging a couple of articles with Jason Roberts' thought on racism in the game which have appeared this morning:
Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 23714.html
Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... shirt.html

I think the group of players, including JR, could potentially have publicised this before the weekend so that their actions weren't misinterpreted. However, IMO, this explains their actions pretty effectively

Tokyo Sex Whale I might start a Federation of White Players. See how that goes down.

Probably raise a few eybrows what with the last white player to fall victim to racism was in the year never-teen sixty-never.

I am actually behind Jason on all of this. However I did hear on the way home from work last night that they are planning on building a Black Players Commitee. I see Racism as a thing that CAN work both ways, so I dont think that would be right. Maybe a Players Against Predujice Group would be better, which could cover sexual preferences, race and a whole load of other issues.

Rio is mixed race I believe so he might want in both federations. Though I am concerned that once you go black federation you would never go back.

Getting fed up with all this "racism" talk now - the way they're going on you'd think everyone was turning up in white hoods lobbing bananas on to the pitch.

You'll never understand, TBM. I heard Rio Ferdinand say it on the radio last night - unless you've been the subject of racism you'll never understand.

He then went on to disparage people who get abused for being ginger or fat or Scottish, saying it wasn't the same. This from a black-haired skinny English bloke, who will never understand.

I think there is a difference, as pointed out by others on the Roberts thread on the TB, but to belittle the abuse other people get for different reasons is a bit harsh I think.

It's not as if there aren't a load of kids who kill themselves every year because of bullying, often targetting their body shape and hair colour etc.

Edit: What annoys me most about Ferdinand is that he's coming out with all this after his racially divisive 'choc-ice' approving retweet. That kind of talk just re-enforces racial divides, stereotypes and prevents successful integration of black and white kids.

Barton tweeting sense shock!?

Joey7Barton

I feel if you create two separate groups, you force people to choose sides.
There should be no sides. Were in it together. That's the message and that should be the message.

All you ever get from Roberts is "the issues", "we don't deal with the issues","the issues are still here" etc etc.

What the fuc are these "issues" Jason?

Please share some detail.

EP, do you genuinely think that racism is a problem in football?

If so, explain in detail why.
