Boyle the Royal So the only source for this is Jonny Fordham? I think that speaks for itself

Yeah, that he has his ear to the ground and knows what's what!

sandman McDermott has done so much for us in the last few years yet we've got people here siding with a player who has been here five minutes and done Jack in the process. You only have to look at what happened at Guthrie's wedding to know he's a bad egg.

It's disappointing to see people siding with Guthrie against Brian. On the other hand, lets not overjudge Guthrie either--it might just be a short-term issue (like Feds's) caused by upset at not keeping his place in the team. It doesn't need to be black and white: best scenario is if Guthrie learns from this and knuckles down to play the way Brian wants (which is pressing and forward-moving).

McAnuff should probably start in central midfield anyway. He is our best player at the moment and should get the ball more often.

Sorry, but McDermott isn't the second coming. We be able to come to our own conclusions on individual scenarios based on circumstances not blind loyalty.

McDermott I suspect made promises to Guthrie when convincing him to sign that he is now going back on. That's fair enough, he's the manager, but if he's going to do that then he needs to make sure he manages him correctly.

Disagree, we need our best players in their best positions where they are most effective.

Everyone needs to chill out.

In a few days, Guthrie will be back in training and everything will be back to normal.

He'll be on the bench or starting the game at QPR on Sunday, and this will all be forgotten about. It's a non-starter of a story.

No, no, no, no, no!!

Every time he's moved into the middle we completely lose him. He was equally as awful in the second half when he came into the centre for McClearyto come on. We will not get by by putting players out of position at this level.

McDermott isn't the second coming, but the manager's word should be law. If it turns out that Brian has mishandled Guthrie in some way, then that would open Brian to criticism but it still wouldn't justify any rocking the boat by Guthrie. I would be astonished if Brian promised a starting place to Guthrie, though Guthrie may have read his sales talk that way. Managers would be unlikely to restrict their options by doing that. When Guthrie joined it was for first team football, as he said at the time; I should think he is bewildered and upset at being dropped, but I am sure he will knuckle down. Firstly it's his only option, and secondly Brian does not strike me as a manager who will send a player out into the cold.

We'll see won't we, hopefully this will prove to be a masterstroke by McDermott and Guthrie will come back more determined than ever.

It does just add to the pressure that Bri will be under in the next couple of weeks though.

 at this comment. You were present at his wedding then? And can personally vouch for him being a bad egg?

cmonurz The 'Reading way' won't matter if some of our best players like Federici and Guthrie are poorly managed (and I support Federici being dropped).

Beginning to feel this 'our way or no way' approach is proving a little damaging, especially in respect of some of our new signings like Guthrie ('too good' at football for our team) and Pogrebnyak (trying to feed off our 'direct' style when he wants it into feet).

On a thread in GF, there are pages of criticism of a certain Brendan Rodgers for trying to force a system on personnel at Liverpool that perhaps doesn't suit his squad. Far be it for me to criticise God McDermott for signing quality players and being ill-prepared to play to their strengths.

Guthrie has done nothing so far to be able to demand he's in the first team. I'm sure he thinks he should be, tough shit. I'll stick with Brian's opinion. As for the Rodgers/Liverpool stuff - pathetic.

Oh dear, too many sherries, leon? :|

My initial point was that I'm concerned that we're seeing some 'man management' issues this season and that I keep reading about a 'Reading way'. The comparison I drew to Rodgers was simply because he gets a lot of stick on here being a previous (and failed) Reading manager - much of that stick is for trying to push his way of doing things on first Reading, and now Liverpool, when the personnel don't necessarily suit. I do hope that's not become the case at Reading under McDermott.

sandman, you make Kes look intelligent.

Thank you for proving my point. Make one lighthearted comment and a Liverpool fan on the internet (and I stress internet) gets oversensitive and compares you with some idiot who blames innocent people for Hillsborough. Oh and as I have family members who are Liverpool fans I actually don't mind them as a club it's just internet types like you who cry everytime anyone says something even slightly critical of the club.

That would be a brilliant point, if the situation with McDermott was anywhere near similar to Rodgers at RFC and Liverpool. Actually it's quite the opposite.

McDermott is not imposing a new way of playing on an entire team, his team know exactly how we play - he got them promoted.....we are talking about 1 maybe 2 players (not convinced about your point on Pog I agree he needs better service but apart from that I can't really see a major issue with him) I honestly think Guthrie should shut the f*ck up and knuckle down - hard work that's "the Reading Way"

I might have another sherry. Yes why not. I'm on holiday. Bottoms up!
