Wimb
Snowball I'm not surprised at this thread, but Jeez it's dumb.

Reading are clearly improving and have played the clubs currently top, fourth, 7th, 8th,10th, 11th, 12th, 13th.
We have just drawn 3-3 with Fulham, who beat Norwich 5-0. Our GD is only -6 after 8 games, despite shipping
4 at Chelsea, and the bad defeat at home to Spurs (now 4th).

We have shown, quite clearly that we can score whenever we go for it, and though we haven't yet won at home
we are staring to build a decent record of at least avoiding defeat 1-1, 2-2, 3-3. Our defeat at Liverpool by a single
goal is starting to look like a much better result than it did on the day And Liverpool look top-eight at the very worst.

Of COURSE we are going to be out-possessed by the majority of clubs in this league. Why is anyone surprised?

ATM we are logging a number of goals-against which have been truly excellent. Ba's first, Sterling's, Ruiz, Berbatov, Swansea etc
and I don't think we've had much luck (Torres, Ba)

But we are drawing, losing by a single goal (Liverpool, WBA) wheres other sides are building bad GDs

We are effectively a point clear of Saints and 2 clear of QPR with a game in hand on both of them. Villa look poor.

There are very good reasons to think we can finish above these three and we must have a good chance of finishing in the mix with Norwich, Wigan
with neither Stoke or Sunderland likely to be streets clear of the bottom 3.

We haven't won, but only one of our defeats was a really bad one (Spurs). We competed at Chelsea, were a bit toothless at WBA, and were decent in
the second half at Liverpool. That game in hand and that reasonable GD might be important. We've lost 4/8 whereas Saints have lost 7/9, QPR 6.

I REALLY think McDermott is pulling it round and we can still end up comfortably clear of the drop. It just needs that one win and it will look a lot better.

Having said all the above, the games v QPR, Norwich, Saints, Wigan and Villa are absolutely massive and I dearly hope the lads go into the game
at Loftus Road with the right attitude. (I'm worried, TBH). We don't need to win there, but a defeat would be horrible.

Good lord Snowball if only you spoke this much sense more often ;)

Royal91 McDermott needs a Mike Basset moment!

Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

I like this. Well said old chap.

But, the style of football employed, whereas effective last season is not working this season. There just isn't enough quality in the current squad to be competitive. Is there enough quality to stay up? Only time will tell. And if BMcD was removed, who would be the best option to replace him and do a better job with this squad? Precisely!

Harry Redknapp ........ though think an appointment for him at QPR might be more than likely if we win on sunday.

Redknapp would expect tens of millions to waste. Now that is most definitely not the Reading way. What with the 25 man squad, what else could BMcD do with the resources he has? There is no way there will be a dramatic change of style - BR showed that approach doesn't work. What then?

Lacoste

Who would you want?

by Lacoste » 29 Oct 2012 11:32

If the worst came to the worst, who would you want to take over?

Some options are listed however other suggestions are welcome

Curbs
Poyet
Hoddle
Dolan
Gibbs
Malky
Redknapp
ole gunnar solskjaer
Powell
Pearson
Sven :lol:
Fabio :lol:

Personally, if he does leave I would like someone with experience at this level, or at least has proven themselves in the league below/abroad. Someone who has a good record in the market and plays a progressive, passing style of football.

Lets hope it doesn't come to this

Surely, if McDermott does go in the next few months, Roberts will at least get an interview?

Too right... Good grief; please don't mention Colins name without a prior warning.

I am in the BM crew but we need to start turning draws into wins fast - friendship and nice guys mean nothing if any league.

I will give him til the Transfer window; which is probably too late. and see what he does in that.

Come on Brian, your support is just its first signs of waning, start repairing it.

Actually; I think we are going down (Yes, its only late October); but never mind; as long as we dont lose too many players we will come straight back up this time.

Agreed, sadly. This is exactly what Guthrie did against Stoke. He just seemed to create space and buy time, then look to pass and get us moving, but that obviously wasn't what BM wanted. Baffling really. That's exactly what we do need.

its hardly baffling

after stoke, and chelsea when he was playing exactly as you described, he then stoped playing how you described and became more of a liability

No more a liability than anyone else around that time. He was instructed to start being more direct and lump the ball forward, which isn't his game. He was being picked up on passing to much. Stop dilly dallying and hoof it lad... He expressed some dissent and hasn't had a look in since.

pass it less, but more forward and with more accuracy.

he was giving it away more than the supposedly worse players in the last couple of games i saw him play, and even more key, wasnt tracking back and husling when he did so
