Re: Brian McDermott

marcusopp First and foremost, the guy is a legend.
To all the annoying doubters who keep questioning his decisions..... Feck off.
He's turned this club around from relegation threatened championship club to a premier league club in just a few seasons, without spending any significant funds and losing several key men (namely Long and Sig).
We've been missing several of our key men this year who were fundamental to us going up last year; Roberts, Kebe, Karacan, Feds. To have lost to spurs, liverpool, WBA and chelsea isn't that bad at all.
I firmly believe he's the right man for the job.
If a player throws his toys out of the pram and threatens the mood within the club, then McD's right in dropping him, he's the manager after all.

All those moaning, feck off and support chelsea you bunch of unrealistic morons

Spot on.

Based on the tiny amount Reading FC spent in the summer we are dead certs for relegation. Most teams in this division have a single player who cost more than our entire squad. But MCD is the glue that holds the team together and I fully expect us to survive and surprise the pundits by the end if the season. Brian has done a remarkable job in difficult circumstances and to even talk about replacing him this season is completely disrespectful as far as I am concerned.

He deserves to be manager for the long haul - even if we are relegated this season.

Why do people always tell others who have differing opinions to "go and support Chelsea"? I've been a Reading fan for over 30 years and I've seen plenty of managers come and go - some I've loved, some I've loathed - but in the end, the one thing that keeps me going to watch them is the fact that they are MY team.

I don't know how long BM has, but anyone who doesn't think he might be on dodgy ground unless results pic up, is deluding themselves. IMO. And to clarify, I think he's been fantastic for us, but maybe now he has taken us as far as he can within the constraints he may have been given. The PL is so different to the rest of the leagues below - it's been a steep learning curve for him, but if he does stay on, no matter where we end up at the end of the season, maybe he will be able to give it a better shot in forthcoming seasons.

well it looks like Redknapp is going to Blackburn - [must be mad] so he's off the list for any potential replacemewnts.

"I haven't met anyone from Blackburn and have no plans to," the former Tottenham boss told BBC Sport.

"As far as I am concerned there is nothing in it. It's as simple as that."

But we all need to be realistic. The point is we are not Chelsea. We are not even Fulham or Aston Villa - both of which have much more valuable players than us. We have a squad that cost about 10M to put together - about enough to buy Fernando Torres's right knee (and he is not much cop at the moment). It will take time for Brian to get the squad up to PL standards but I was very encouraged by the “never say die attitude” on Saturday against Fulham and still think we have every hope of survival if we keep the faith. What other manager will get any more out of the limited squad that we have assembled?

Then hopefully next summer Anton will do some serious investing in the squad.

Cobi
Curbs - NEVER!!
Poyet - YES PLEASE!!
Hoddle - NEVER!!
Dolan - Maybe, but concerned same 'Reading Way' and long ball continues..
Gibbs - NEVER!!
Malky - NO
Redknapp - YES PLEASE!!
ole gunnar solskjaer - Maybe
Powell - NO
Pearson - NEVER!!
Sven - NEVER!!
Fabio - NO

Lulz. Anyone who wouldn't want Fabio as our manager (barring things like wages or him not sticking around) is a fool. He's one of the ten or fifteen best managers in the world and we would be extremely fortunate to have him as our manager.

Curbishley did great things at Charlton and is probably the best realistic external appointment, even though he's been out of the game for a long time. Pearson and Malky are also very good managers, and Hoddle too (though he has been out of management for too long IMO).

Clearly you've never seen a Dolan side play, he generally sets them up in a 4-5-1 and encourages the other academy sides to play that way when possible with very short passing. The goalkeeper nearly always distributes to the centre backs. In other words he's setting them up to be told they don't fit "the Reading way".

Redknapp ruins clubs, like O'Neill and Sven.

Faith finally lost in BM keeping us up now. I don't care this is a cup game we can all just shrug off; yet again we go in at half time and come out a completely different team, no longer closing people down and offering yards of space.

It's not like it's the first time. It's about 5 games we've done that now and thrown it all away. Something has to change, and although I love the guy, I want this club to stay in the Premiership next season, and that isn't going to happen under his managership. I think change is a must if we want to stay up. If you disagree, then no problem, but we have zero chance at this level with these ridiculous tactics.

Where was Anton when they showed SJM during ET? By the look on McD's face at the end, he knows he's a goner. Feel for him, but he's just not up to it I'm afraid. Someone needs to send a rocket up a few arses tonight in that dressing room though. And Pearce should be starting on Sunday. At least McCarthy knows his position is safe!

Sad to end that way, but that game exposed his deficiencies in the most brutal fashion.

Something good has to come from this, and that will be our club moving on.

We are in danger of becoming a joke like the second premiership season last time we were there, 6-4 at Spurs, 7-4 at Portsmouth our central defense is laughable, sorry boss, but enough is enough, now there is no way we are going to stay up with this defense, no chance 10 goals shipped at home in the last two matches its just a joke now.
