Royal Ginger
double d hardly the most embarrassing game ever. There have been so many worse. Arsenal are not exactly the worst team in the world (even their ressies). The ref did cheat us out with that extra 2 mins at the end though.

Don't make excuses. That was absolutely shocking, an utter disgrace, and awful to watch. Tabb ran out of steam and we took the biggest shafting I've ever seen a team get for 40 minutes. Gunter was crap, Gorkss was an embarrassment, and Ledge went for a wander after half time. We only got into the position we did because of an un-gelled team with a hopeless goalkeeper.

Its pretty irrelevant the facts are that we should know how to defend a 4-0 lead. Sorry penalty shouts and additional time is irrelevant here the boys have no one to blame but themselves there is no point in trying to deny it.

Alexander Litvinenko
PistolPete Ah, apologies. But half the semi-suicidal people on here seem to be getting it wrong. You know, the same guys that call it Arsenal reserves while forgetting that their 'reserves' had one of France's centre forwards, Andry Arshavin and England's Right winger on the pitch. They also forgot that we scored 5 goals.

Sorry again!

No problems, that's "The Team" board for you. The vast majority are here for knee-jerks and hyperbole and can't see beyond that.

No-one is ever poor, they're "utterly useless, the worst player ever", and we're never beaten because we're up against a better team - we should win every match by a hatfull otherwise it's a disaster and someone is to blame.

Oh, and changing the manager is the answer to everything - there'll be no disruption, no time getting to know the players, and no cost involved that could be spent on improving the squad.

There's a lot of hyperbole in that post, that's for sure.

The vast majority on here are perfectly capable of reasoned discussion, and manage it just fine.

Brian lost us that game, and in doing so has brought about a permenant cloud over our club - no amount of goals will ever be enough to give us the confidence of winning again.

I'd gladly trade that "humilation" for three points on Sunday.

The main issue I see in this debate is that, unlike the Bristol Rovers result (which I personally think is more embarrasing) it's being plastered all over the national and international media. It's difficult to see this gleeful slaughtering by the top four friendly media. Luckily I'm not in work this week and will not be switching my mobile on until the weekend.

The greater point is that if McDermott didn't realise he's got a couple of huge issues in defence before that match, he certainly does now.

Anyway, it overshadows both pretty bad beatings for Southampton and Wigan last night.

I'd put the PNE 18-0 Reading as the most embarrassing. Don't suppose there are many about from the late 19th Century to tell us about it though.

As another poster said Arsenal got thrashed 8-2 last season and ended up ok. Man Utd lost 1-6 at home to City, remember Crystal Palace losing 9-0 to Liverpool in the league only to go on and beat them in the FA cup semi-final in the same season. Sh1t happens.

That's always been a problems for a significant minority of Reading fans in general and a large partion of the team board posters in particular.

Again, completely ignoring the 4 goals we scored and the shafting we gave them in the first 40 minutes.

It should have been more than enough, it wasn't and Mcd and the players will have to have a long hard look at why it wasn't but I also hope they don't forget or dismiss how well we played for the first 40 minutes as you seem to have done because its just as important to remember what we did right as what we did wrong.

Yeah that throwing away a 4-0 lead is just simply not good enough. How can BMD even have any grounds of defence for himself makes you wonder what goes through people's heads on here when they start slating fans for laying into the team.

Its going to take a pretty damn good result on Sunday for anyone to put this game to rest I've been angry when we've lost before but usually that sizzles down 2 hours after full time. Its a day after and I am still fuming and embarrassed.

I know most football fans are the biggest load of pessimists and suffer from huge knee jerk reactions - but most on here really are pathetic in my opinion.

Last year Arsenal lost 8-2 to United. They did not sack Wenger - despite a lot of their fans calling for his head as it was "their most embarrassing result ever" and they went on to win their next match 1-0 against Swansea.

Wenger is still the manager by the way as far as I recall.

Come on Brian - gee the lads up and use the above as an example. A 1-0 win at QPR would restore confidence and stop the idiots on here calling for your head.

One of the things that struck me when we were 4-0 is that we hadn't actually played brilliantly. We played well enough, but we hardly tore them to pieces with our brilliant football. The opposite of your point in fact, I think 4-0 masked the fact that it was just a 'perfect storm' of a first 45 minutes that went in our favour.

but we still played very well

TBF the 8-2 was a one-off freak result. Can't remember, did they finish the game with 11 players? Last night's nightmare followed a series of p*ss poor results and performances.

Jenkinson was sent off near the end but they had already been thrashed by then.

And yes it was a freak result but so was last night!

And I don't think we have been terrible so far this season. We just have problems in defence and at CM which need addressing.

Putting a brave face on it all this morning - thank god that I'm not in the office today to get the piss taken out of me.

At the end of the day our most expensive player on the pitch cost £3.5m, most of our other players are Freebies compared to the Arsenal Reserves (walcott is worth more than our whole team!!!)

I was amazed at how many Arsenal supporters there were in East Stand!! A whole family of Arsenal fans sat in front of us and left 15 minutes before the end of the game and then then suddendly appeared back again as Extra time started - they must have got back to their nice little house in Reading, switched on the TV and thought lets nip back to the stadium now that Arsenal are winning!!

Had to laugh at this link though and some of the Arsenal Tweets sent when they were losing............

Seriously worried about Sunday now and beating Derby's record - we just aren't good enough!!

yeah - that's the worst part. Losing to a rag-tag bunch of nobodies who only cost £55 million.

We also hit the post in that time. You don't score 4 goals in 40 minutes without playing well. Even in the first 10 minutes of the second half Leigertwood had a great chance, we forced the keeper into another save and could/perhaps should have had a penalty. You can't just dismiss this portion of the game as if it never happened.

We don't necessarily have the players to "rip teams to shreds" in the way a side like Arsenal can (and did only a few weeks ago V Saints) but we utterly dominated that first half by pressurising high up the pitch, forcing them into mistakes and then being pretty clinical with our finishing. That's brilliant football.

They got a shafting in that first 40 minutes whether it meets your aesthetic criteria or not.

I guess some of those reactions make our fans look sane!

A lot of dog shit eating must have gone on last night in London.
