bracksroyal10 no other team would of given up a lead that big take a look at the bigger picture.

I think you'll find the team we played last night did, not so long ago. They also conceded 8 in a game not so long ago and I remember everyone saying how their manager had lost the plot and had to go. They finished 3rd.

Last night is on McD because he really needed to change formation in the 2nd half when we were put under pressure and didn't. However some people need to get a grip here. We were going to struggle this season regardless of who our manager was and McD has certainly made mistakes but we need to have a long hard look at ourselves as a club if the bloke that has given us so much with so little to work with, isn't given every chance to prove he can repeat the feats of the previous seasons.

Yeah point granted but theres just going down 8-0 and having an absolute shocker against one of if not the best in England (Man Utd) and then theres having a 4-0 lead and losing 7-5.

I can't believe all the people defending Mcdermott on here. Why are people content with going down to the Championship? We surely want to push towards the best level that we possibly can be at just like every other normal club. Otherwise ..... whats the point and why should Anton bother investing in a club that is happy to sit at the same level because quite frankly SJM might as well stay on as owner if thats what the majority want to do.

Ok it was only the co cup but if im one of only a few that feels embarrassed after throwing away a 4-0 lead and then losing then something is very wrong with the general mindset of some of our fans. Don't get me wrong I expect us to struggle it was never going to be easy but all these people saying I am happy with Championship football?

I can take a loss but its the way we have lost matches and thrown away 2 goal leads that I can't stand. What are the players supposed to think psychologically the next time they are 4-0 up against someone because lets face it that game will be in the back of their heads the next time it does happen.

perhaps that's the problem Reading have had only ever had 3 sesons of top flight football that some fans are so used to mediocracy that they accept mediocracy as the norm the attitude of some posters on here having a go at others because they have criticised last night shambles is baffling to say the least .

or maybe we accept that you cant build an established premiere league team over night
and if it takes a few years of yo-yoing like west brom, so be it

and maybe we look at our history, and say, we arent a big club, but we are getting bigger, and better, and where once it looked like we would never ever be a prem side, or even an established championship side, both have now been achieved, so thats a plus.

maybve its just a different outlook on life- some people like to be negative, and moan, and criticise
other people think thats pointless, and prefer to look at the positives whereever possible.

I'm really concerned this morning. Has someone stolen Ideal's login? Because I agree with him.

Who's having a go? It's a discussion board. I'm as entitled to comment if I disagree with someone as they are entitled to make the comment in the first place.

Mediocracy indeed.

says a man who has found not a single positive from the game to man who has criticised the team, and manager, but also found positives.

Ideal Jesus f'ing christ, get a hold of yourselves.
We all knew the squad was shit, even when we went up they overperformed out of their skins.
We all knew we would get dicked on every single match in the prem.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

And you pcunts calling for Redknapp, what the hell is going on in your minds? Are you of full mental health? That's _the_ single worst thing that could ever happen to us.

So given that we were 4-0 up last night, you don't think defeat was avoidable?

For many years I've been known on here as 'an RTG'.

Positives from last night? No thanks. Sometimes it's just not possible.

You give no credit for our wonderful performance which lead to us being 4-0 up, yet detract fully for conceding etc.
I have to say that referee was going to play on until they equalized no matter how many minutes it took.
We had legitimately won that match at 94 minutes, so you can oxf*rd off.

No, if you've bothered to read other people's posts rather than just fly in with your usual myopic diatribes I've been saying wholeheartedly that we played well for the first 40 minutes and even the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

IF according to you we accept that we were always going to be dicked every week, how come we were 4-0 up last night?

It is possible, to support McD in staying as manager, yet still accept that he didn't do enough at 4-1 or indeed 4-2 to secure the win last night. But then it might require you to actually have an original thought in your head and not glean all your opinions from the Daily Mail Online.

You made a comment I thought about people in general. You're much better than bracketing someone as 'negative' because they can't make themselves feel good about last night. You baboon.

Of course there were positives!

We scored 4 excellent goals, forced some good saves, hit the post and had a stone-wall penalty denied
but it wasn't "flukey". We played fast football in the Reading way and deserved our goals.

Morrison looks like a very good CB

Roberts was excellent and got a goal. Clearly he's still up to Prem football

Hunt was beating international defenders time and time again and got a good goal.

They look like the best pairing up front.

McCleary looked excellent and made a goal. His interplay with Gunter for the goal was brilliant.

IMO apart from the last minute, Gunter looked positive and Gunter-McCleary much better a partnership than Cummings-Kebe

IMO Elwood had a good game, as did Tabb but not a surprise they tired, especially Tabb who'd only played 3 full games.
We need Karacan, but 2 from these 3 and not Guthrie is probably right for the players/style we have

and we ARE competing. Look at the facts

Our last 6 x 90 minutes versus Premiership teams

4-4 Arsenal
3-3 Fulham
0-1 Liverpool
2-2 Swansea
2-2 Newcastle
3-2 QPR

14-14

Really? Hate to imagine how many we would have conceded with a CB of lesser quality.

If QPR beat us I really don't know what will happen re MCD. He will definitely be in charge for that game though.

We just don't know what the Russians are thinking or how they will react. MCD has a friend in Madejski but Madejski himself hasn't been afraid of sacking managers when they have underperformed. The supposed reaction by Anton last night and the fact Boris was there isn't good news for MCD and one more defeat might well do it for him.

With regards to who might come in, it depends on who would have the biggest input. I trust Hammond to know who's available/would be interested in the job and to get his man.

If a Russian manager comes in, I will start to worry but I can't see that happening TBH.

you don't even need a few seasons of yo-yoing to establish yourselves look at Wigan and Stoke both came up survived the first season and are now firmly established premiership clubs Stoke are a club similar in size to Reading, they are a well run club who have bought wisely in the transfer market and we should be looking at thhem as a benchmark of how to do things.

I thought Morrison and Shorey were both very good. Fed was average - thought he could have done better for a couple of the goals and Gorkks and Gunter had a mare defensively - although Gunter is ok goig forwards.

In my opinion Morrison comes out with credit.
