If there's one thing guaranteed to piss me off more than losing after being 4-0 up, it's the Churchillian 'we will fight until...' statements that invade the board, like this is all some kind of antenatal class we have to will ourselves through; and sweeping generalisations that those who dare to hold a certain view on last night are deemed 'negative' and 'pessimists'.

If we'd have won 4-3 I'd have probably said that we were lucky to cling on. Arsenal were knocking on the door all the way through that second half. How many time did they have dangerous shots and crosses flash past our goalmouth?

We played better than we have, but lets not forget that we were playing an Arsenal side with 2 or 3 first teamers (who can't actually get a game I might add) in it and the rest a bunch of kids with very limited first team experience. They were awful in that first half and played their own large part in our 4-0 lead (that's to take nothing away from some good attacking play though).

Whatever the final result last night I would've been coming away from that game bemoaning the second half performance because it just wasn't good enough for a set of players who have all (bar Morrison that is) played a decent number of first team games in the league and so are the players we're looking to in order to stay in this league. Their performances, and most importantly their mental and physical errors that led to us not closing out the game are quite worrying irrespective of the scoreline.

Certainly wasn't feeling too proud last night and after spending hours on the motorway today, listening to various radio stations talk of our collapse, I'm not feeling much love today.
One radio station even invited a sports psychologist on to give his views on how we can recover from last night!

I know most of the team board seem to have the samaritans on speed-dial, and only concede the glass might be half full because somebody might have pissed in it, but a 4-4 score at 90 minutes, even if one team did score all the last four, doesn't actually mean the team that equalised was far better.

Agree totally with the stupidity of the "B" team comment. Isn't the fact that Arsenal have used this "B team" approach routinely in the League Cup for the last few years and made the quarter finals consistently simply evidence that their squad has strength in depth - at least compared to non big 5 clubs Premiership clubs.

They didn't ALL give their all though did they? Did you clap Gorkss and Gunter? I thought they were pretty appalling for the most part.

I would agree that those two players had a mare and Fed was not great but everyone else gave 100% and most had a good game. Is it then right to boo off all those who did well?

I'm still really struggling to come to terms with these Fed wasn't great comments! I can still recall him reacting really quickly, getting down low to his left to parry away wide what looked a certain goal. I can also remember him back-pedalling quickly to punch the ball off the head of a player unmarked a couple of yards out on the far post, punching that player down at the same time! I can recall him diving and punching away a really dangerous looking Walcott cross in the first part of extra time. I can also remember him being left with no chance after two 1 on 1s set up carelessly by his teammates.

I am quite proud that my team has now taken part in the highest ever aggregate scoring PL game (7-4 Pompey) and now the highest aggregate scoring ever League Cup game (5-7). At least we are not boring.

No. If he'd blown at 94 minutes we'd still have given away 3 goals against a youth side that looked terrible in the first half, and who ran us ragged for the whole of the second.
