QPR: Back from the Match / Pub / TV

We aren't a team of average Championship players. After McDermott took over, we were the second best team in the league for about 3 months, then we got in the playoff final, then we got promoted. Average players don't have that level of improvement. Most of our players are top-end Championship players who could "do a job" in the Premier League. Unfortunately one of our best players (Gorkss) is going through a bad spell, and McDermott is making some bad decisions.

The hope for the future is 1) Pearce and Guthrie are two of our better players, we should improve with them back in the side, and 2) we improved dramatically in the second half of our last two seasons under McDermott.

We can't keep allowing teams to have 20+ shots a game at us. We need to be breaking up play long before the opposition can take aim.


Or alternatively don't give the ball back so cheaply in the first place. We are still using our fast counter attacking football that worked well for us last year, unfortunately against the better quality this is breaking down 9 times out of 10 so within a few seconds of getting the ball we have given it straight back again.

McCarthy man of the match for me, made some great saves in a bottom of the league encounter that might have otherwise ended very differently.

Watched the game under cover in a QPR pub where most of the talk from the locals was of how poor QPR were, a team of individuals with no clue. I felt the same criticism could've really been levelled at our beloved Royals, Kebe for example had a few trademark excellent runs which one wonders could've become something if he'd been prepared to let go of possession.

Dodgy internet feed in the pub with talksport commentary, who seemed to dwell on the empty seats in Reading end given the sold out home stands. "It's the recession" the feedback on social media said, and really you can't argue - quite the change from the league cup where cost conscious Royals snapped up the £15 seats.

Draw fair result.

Yeah, the willingness to play the game in our own half without the ball when defending a lead is suicidal at this level. We want to take the sting out of the game, knocking it about the back and holding it in the flanks in their half. Some of our breaks were good to a point, but it was criminal Ledge and Kebe amongst others blasting it from range. Hard to score and if you miss it's a guarantee the balls back in your half next. Keep it, work the good chance and keep their defence working.

I think any team from 10-20th is beatable for us really. As said before get one win and we could go on a decent run.

As could 9 other clubs.

good performance to bounce back after tuesday. first half again played some nice football, pretty much dominated the game, without having masses of on target efforts, but won plenty of headers, and had a few free headers we should have done better with, restricted them to long range efforts
thought ledge and tabb, roberts and hunt looked tired 2nd half, anmd that, and the pressure to win on QPR led to a more open game, and we were hanging on at times, but after the goal we rode the storm and came back at em strong


morrison again looked good, unlucky for the goal, mcarthy was superb, gorkss better, and midfield was good until they started to get knackered

ill take a point, was much more important to get a response to tuesday, a decent performance, and put it behind us.
was more important for QPR to win, since it was at home, and theyve spent millions

From the QPR game i have concluded;

We are a team of average championship players (minus Roberts, Pog and shorey???) who are giving it their 110%, working our socks off to get a draw where as
QPR are a team of quality players that are not playing to their 100% capability and gaining similar results to us.

so where does that leave us?

A team like QPR could/will improve to unlock their full potential (Through a manager change or other means) gain results. whereas us with, I really cant see us playing any better than the performances that have been displayed so far. We are basically depending on luck, grafting and hard work... skill, experience and class will always out do this.

I think we are on a steep learning curve and will improve. At times during the first half we were playing very fast, alert football of the type required at this level, but we couldn't sustain it. We will learn to sustain it. Learning comes in fits and starts on a steep learning curve and at first you only get it right in fragments. Bit by bit it starts to happen, and then it gels.

Of course, not all these players will be able to make the leap from Championship to Premier players, but I back McDermott in giving them the chance. Often unlikely players make the step up, as Stephen Hunt did last time; maybe Morrison is going to do that this time, while someone like Federici surprisingly fails.

To be fair, Brian's eye is mainly on team spirit when he makes these comments. I still have faith in him, and when he says we will get there, I'm prepared to listen, as he is a lot smarter than me when it comes to our team. At least he's not like Brendan Rodgers, who today said he thought Liverpool were brilliant. Obviously not, or they would have won.

The performances are just bizarre. Awesome first half again then a complete collapse in the second half. Desperately short of CM's to freshen up and retain possession at key times

I find myself in agreement with Brendy here. There were some ridiculous overreactions after the Arsenal game, claiming that there was no way back for Brian and this team. Yet we came out today and dominated QPR for he first half and we had chances to win it even after they'd equalised. I actually thought our ball retention wasn't bad today, but we did allow players such as Taraabt far too much time on the ball.

A win would have been great, but a point away at QPR isn't too bad at all. It will be our results at home that ultimately decide whether we stay up or not, we absolutely have to start winning at home.

Assuming no injuries, I would go with the same starting XI against Norwich.

Why do we need 11 wins? Are you assuming we'll losing every game we don't win?

8 wins and 9 draws (+12 defeats) gives us 38 points too.
