And who thought Lorro would ever be more positive than Reading fans? He said if we kept our present team efforts going we will start winning. Good point, but can't he be bothered to have a shave to go on telly?[/quote]

RoyalBlue Yesterday Jay Tabb very much played with PL quality. However, I'm still concerned that he will not be able to produce that level of performance consistently - would love it if he did.

Last 3 games he has very much impressed me, been getting forward more, looking confident, hassling and breaking up play. Dare I say it, first goal against Norwich?

Snowball
facaldaqui MOTD2 was interesting. Tabb, Leigertwood, Roberts, and McCarthy picked out. Tabb and Roberts not so much on here. All we can do is moan that the midfield ran out of steam (leading to conceding one goal).

To be honest the ballwinning of Tabb and Leigertwood was pretty uncanny most of the time. I really want a Guthrie-type creative presence, but it's like putting an engine on a rowing boat while pulling a plank out.

And who thought Lorro would ever be more positive than Reading fans? He said if we kept our present team efforts going we will start winning. Good point, but can't he be bothered to have a shave to go on telly?

Thought Roberts was EXCELLENT up front and far better than Pog at holding up the ball, giving us a breather.

When fit he'd be on my team-sheet every time

Hunt looked a bit off colour and trying Pog for him might've helped

EXCELLENT? Hmm, he has his strengths for sure but I find Roberts' style of play a bit irritating. He's like Wimbledon in the 80s.

Shame some of our other players can't change into the Crazy Gang! That would stop us throwing away leads.

*subs please check

It just seems to me that his 1st thought is not how can I do something positive or create an opportunity, it's more how can I win a throw / corner, buy a free kick.

I now what you mean but I think he has looked very positive in the last two games and fitter as well
He does get more than his share of free kicks but to be honest if he gets us two or three free kicks a game Im not complaining

ZacNaloen Hunt looks completely and utterly knackered after 65 minutes. No idea why he wasn't subbed over Roberts who tbf still looked fresh.

I'd imagine it's because Hunt is the only striker we have who wins anything in the air when we hooooooof it up field.

^^^
This

Roberts simply doesn't attempt to jump and Pog is not much better and when he does jump he mistimes it

Hunt on the other hand wins just about everything thrown at him against much taller defenders

I thought Sunday was actually quite an encouraging performance, especially on the back of the last 2 or 3 games, and we played some pretty good stuff at times. That is a big positive for me because, with McCleary in the side over Kebe, we looked more like a team capable of keeping the ball a bit more.

The biggest worry though is that, bar 20 minutes against Newcastle, and some of the first half against Fulham, it's the best we've played because the opposition was the weakest we've faced all season. Despite this we still failed to win, and we need to start winning games soon.

As others have already pointed out we are still running out of steam. That's hardly surprising when we're so short of numbers that we can't even have a central midfieler on the bench and Hunt and Tabb have never been players really capable of putting together a full on 90 minutes at lower levels, let alone a string of them in this more physically demanding Premier League.

As the hammers fan alludded to, I think we still looked like we were a Championship side taking on a Premier League side in a cup game and it seems that is our mentality for the season. To be the plucky outsiders relying on blood and thunder over genuine quality. Unfortunately I can't see that being enough.

Tabb, Morrison, McCleary and especially McCarthy came out of the game with a lot of credit though. Gunter and Hunt also showed up well so fingers crossed this will be a bit of a turning point as McDermott struggles to find his working combinations in his strongest team.

agree with all of that- except
McCleary in the side over Kebe, we looked more like a team capable of keeping the ball a bit more.

pretty sure kebe has the best stats on keeping possession etc
and im not sure mcleary had his best game

pretty sure that if kebe hqd played for that long hed have created a little more than garath did

still happy to have either starting though tbf

In my opinion the problem is fairly obvious and simple.

We know we can score goals, and regardless of which attacking options we use, it seems we have the personnel.

That extends to the subs bench where we have good options for changes up front and the wings.

The problems seem to come later in games, and this should be taken care of with our substitutions defensively; obviously we don’t want to go messing with the back four late in a game, so the changes need to happen in midfield.

And that is where we are struggling. Tabb and Legs seem to need replenishing, or we need someone who can make up a 5 man midfield. With Jem fit perhaps we can overcome this problem, but I wish we’d get over the issue with Guthrie.

Being able to change the midfield should help our cause immensely. At the moment it’s difficult to see how we are going to do that.

tbf it was from snowballs stats, so who knows!
im also quotng them from my incomplete ex drug addicts memory- so he may not be THE best etc

but for me its also pretty clear from watching him play that he is much more interested in keeping possession, rather than going for the 50-50 play of lobbing a cross into an area, or going for the risky dribble.

even though that is also what hes got the most grief for in the last few games

I agree with the fact that we are tiring after around 60mins, taking off a striker and bringing on guthire would make us more solid, the other two tackling and him for ball retention and passes. I don' think it would invite anymore pressure in this formation than we already get at that stage of the game.

Yeah, great. When the 1st thought is to look for that kind of opportunity then it's really not the kind of positivity that I'd want to watch on a regular basis.
