Cypry There's some very fine margins at play here, and I don't think we're a million miles away from getting it right...
We've lost four in nine, and drawn the other five - no, we haven't had a win, but conversely, we haven't been turned over by anyone yet...

I reckon Brian will be given a lot more time by Anton than some believe - in a strange kind of way this is reminding me of the 2010/11 season, Brians first full one in charge, where we went on a series of losses and draws (I seem to remember 5 or 6 consecutive draws in the Autumn) before the arrival of Leigertwood and a second cup run in as many years saw us go on an amazing run and get to Wembley...

I'm not suggesting anything silly like us making Europe this year, but with such fine margins I think Brian will be given the benefit of the doubt as long as we don't suddenly capitulate and start losing heavily consistently...with him at the helm, there's always the chance that history will repeat itself and we put together a run of wins - we have a chance at that now, through November into December, with 5 games that could be considered "winnable", another crack in February with a run of 3 against Sunderland, Stoke and Wigan, and finally another run in April with Southampton, Norwich and QPR split up only by Liverpool at home...

Win a decent percentage of those, plus the home game against Villa, and pick up a couple of bonus wins against the likes of West Brom, Newcastle or Fulham, keep the goal difference respectable and it's easy to see we're not sunk yet....we only need three teams to do worse than us, and as it stands if any team from Swansea down goes on a bad run, then they'll be dragged into the mire....conversely, a couple of wins for us and things will look a whole lot rosier...

This a wind up ?

I would think we'd have to lose against Norwich comfortably for Mcd to be sacked, at this stage.

Brian - who has been our manager for less than 3 years - is now the 14th longest serving manager at the 92 PL and FL clubs.

The hire and fire world of football gets ever more mad.

I hope we stick by him and do things the Reading way.

The Reading way - buy cheap, get relegated, bounce around Championship and L1 with the odd reappearance in the Prem, and repeat.

I'd actually like us to do things another way and try and stay here this time!

We haven't been back in League 1 since we got promoted a decade ago. In fact I think the lowest league finish we've had is about 9th in the Championship.

It's been a brilliant ten years.

AthleticoSpizz I know the writing is seemingly on the wall....just fed up with the usuals posting the usual.

Unlikely tho it seems, I think we will edge it. As for all of the BM lynch mob...........

get in the real world

I agree actually, thought we were decent today and if we get a bit more luck will stay up

BM going won't help anything, nobody will get any better from this squad.

All depends on how long it takes us to get a couple of wins together. Confidence is key to this team. We've actually shown we're capable of beating virtually anyone if we play to our best. The problem is we keep letting it slip away by falling apart and doing the wrong thing in the second half.

If we're still on less than 9 points by the end of November, then we may as well give up because the mountain to climb will be enormous and we'll be so far down into the pit of despair and poor form there'll be almost no hope of turning it around at all, let alone enough.

I don't agree that BM is getting the best out of the players and therefore no one could do better. Sometimes just a change of perspective is enough to change things up and improve and BM IS contributing to the problems IMO. But there's no point in a knee jerk sacking. Saying that, there's no point letting it go on too long either. If we're still winless at the end of November he has to go really. Except if maybe, just maybe we're on an unbeaten run of six games at that point.

we are on a decent run at the minute tbf, considering our positition. just the 1 loss in 7 games? and that by a single goal, away at anfield

if we are up to 15 points by the end of the month ill be more than happy to continue as we are
and tbh id be happy enough with ten, ijust dont think AZ will be

It's a bit naive to think that if we have 10-15 points by Nov/Dec that we're on course to stay up 'pro rata'.

With a squad as thin as ours and the way the PL takes it's toll on players I don't think it's going to be as straightforward as that. Especially as we all know deep down that we're not going to blow the budget on reinforcements in Jan no matter what position we're in.

i didnt say it would mean we would stay up
i said it would make me happy enough.

fully expected to be in a dogfight all season, fully aware there was a good possibility we may go down.would be happy to take the parachute payments, keep brian, and go again next year tbf
but 15 points would mean we were improving, getting points from those around us, and were still in with a shout of staying up.
