Its a bit fanciful to believe that all of Pompey's problems will disappear if the PST takes over; I'd suggest that whilst one set of issues will be potentially resolved (and only then if Chainrai agrees to sell the Trust Fratton Park at a price they can afford) a whole new set will emerge.

I for one, cannot see their fans giving the new owners - even fellow Pompey fans - too much time before their demands of wanting instant success, and for "Pompey to be back where they belong!!" become deafening.

For a start, don't they have another 10 point deduction hanging over their heads at the moment??

I'm not sure - at other supporter-owed clubs a new sense of realism has tended to kick in, because they realise that they came so close to not having a club at all, and there's also a real feeling that it is their own rather than someone else's. Of course, you will get some supporters demanding success at al costs, but fewer than you'd think, I suspect.

It is still disgusting that they are allowed to build a competitive squad of players rather than being told that more or less every penny has to go into settling outstanding debts - oh but I forgot, football clubs are allowed to scrap all their debts, when they feel like it, and then pretty much carry on where they left off aren't they?

With Dirk on this one I think. There is a major difference in mindset when you have a singular or consortium owner compared to a supporter's group - when you have a supporter's group you can be as sure as possible that the group is doing absolutely everything in the club's best interests in order to improve the clubs chances of success, whereas you can't be sure the owner or consortium are. The latter leads to increased demands to perform actions that are geared towards improving the clubs chances of success.

Probably why, despite being relegated last season (having admittedly overachieved) and currently on a poor run of form, I can't think of a good friend of mine saying there are boos ringing out at St James Park, Exeter, and part of me can't envisage that happening unless they get relegated again and don't do particularly well the season after...

Not exactly correct. The Football League and Premier League Allow them to scrap all their debts and carry on. Something that clubs at Tier 5 and below would not be allowed to do.

Plus supporters with an amazing range of talents come out of the woodwork - like all the pro-bono legal work done for PST by supporters and friends.

Appleton to Blackpool.

How has he done enough to justify that move? He's done nothing at Pompey with some decent players and still on big wages too.

Assistant to Hodgeson maybe?, decent players such as Howard? Big wages being the maximum of 3k pw.

The bloke is going to be like a kid in a sweetshop at Blackpool

Assistant to Hodgson doesn't make you a successful manager. He's done absolutely nothing to warrant such a move. Interestingly it seems Blackpool fans largely agree and are less than satisfied. Kid in a sweetshop? Sure, and now an expectancy to get it right immediately with zero excuses to hide behind.

He's built a decent side at Portsmouth this year. Don't be fooled by league position as it did take a while for them to blend. Blackpool are not as big as their bandwagon fans think and if he does as good a job at Blackpool they'll be happy!

Good news I just hope it is a nail in the Pompey coffin. One thing is bugging me. As it stands they are above the drop zone. Once they come out of administration they will incur a 10 point penalty. What happens if they get to the end of the season and then go in to administration? Will they be relegated or start the following season with a ten point penalty?

By law if they are still in admin after 12 months they will be liquidated so they can't get to the end of the season unless they come out by Feb.

He was very well thought of as a coach, hence getting the Pompey job, and has kept them ticking over reasonably well in extreme circumstances.

Managers are chosen by their reputation and how people in the game view them. It's how they do things as much as the simple results (for all the 'results business' cliche's it's an insular industry where reputation and contacts seems to be king) that gets a Chairman to take a punt on an appointment.

Steve Clarke has never been a manager before but is doing a pretty good job at West Brom. Pardew and McGhee both got the Reading jobs as novices because of, in Pardews case, the impression he made as Reserve team manager and being around the club at that time and, in McGhee's case, the backing he got from Fergie and the way he came across to Madejski when they met. Both examples were because of the way they'd behaved and how they were viewed in the game, not because of results.

Pardew got the Newcastle job due to his friendship with the Newcastle MD, Derek Llambias, after they met at a London Casino......

Not sure if it will have any bearing on this, but in related news, Pompey administrators, PKF, are in advanced merger talks with BDO; I'm sure the highly paid guys working on the Pompey administration will be fully focussed on the job in hand, but you have to wonder if this news could cause them to be somewhat distracted....
