Perfectly acceptable performance from a very workmanlike team that is slowly finding its way in the PL and gradually becoming more difficult to beat.

Look, it is what it is. This is your team, your players and they are doing the best they can - your condemnation of their, and the manager's efforts are utterly shameful.

As is said most weeks, if you cannot keep supporting and appreciating what they do, win, lose or draw, when the effort is there as it certainly was today, then you really need to find another team to follow.

This also goes to those expecting to see a creative player in our 2 man central midfield..........................If you want Guthrie, it will only happen at the expense of a striker. If two holding players are struggling to cope with being a man short, who in their right mind would swap one of them for Guthrie

Well I am going to give my ratings, from what I saw on the stream, of the Norwich game;

Federici (6) - Didn't have much to do. Did command his box well. Distribution only fair.
Gunter (6) - Most of the attacks Norwich did have came down his side.
Morrison (7) - Solid. Good in the air. Was a threat off of corners.
Gorkss (7) - Solid. Unspectacular. But a clean sheet is a clean sheet.
Shorey (8) - MOTM for me. Got forward. Was solid on defense. His set piece delivery, while not poor, could have been better.
Leigertwood (4) - Worst game I have seen Mikele have in a while. Passing was poor. Fatigue?
Tabb (6) - Looked good in the 1st half. Faded a bit, as usual, in the 2nd half. Should be part of the CM rotation going forward as players return.
McLeary (5) - Had our best scoring opportunity. But other than that was mostly anonymous and his crosses were poor.
McAnuff (6) - Worked his butt off as usual. Had one of our better chances, in the 2nd half. But not quite up to his usual standard.
Roberts (7) - Worked the channels. Took on his man, drew fouls, created throw-ins and corners. Good with the ball.
Hunt (5) - Ran around alot, and worked his tail off, but was largely anonymous except for his constant chirping at the ref and almost closing down the keeper once.

Kebe (7) - Used his pace. Took on his man down the wing. Cut inside when the opportunity was there. We looked most threatening after his introduction.
Pogrebnyak (6) - Wasn't much of a factor after he came on. Won some headers though.
LeFondre (4) - No impact other than a slight lol at the failed over the head attempt.

Just got finished watching that. As usual, a serious lack of balance here. First of all, I'm struggling to see how anyone could call the performance "perfectly acceptable". There were plenty of shortcomings, but most obviously a lack of creation of serious chances.

Perfectly acceptable performance from a team that is just not capable of producing much better at this stage is the point I was making. There are massive limitations about our squad and it is, to my eyes, a bit of an achievement that they have managed to not get beaten in 60% of the games played so far.

They deserve plaudits and encouragement for that, not ridicule and booing.

AS BM pointed out last week, each season he has been in charge there have been things we have done poorly that have been worked on, improved and become dead issues in time. The one he highlighted as the current focus was the fact that we have been shipping too many goals - guess what? Next game - clean sheet. But no, that's not good enough for some of the "supporters" because we didn't create enough at the other end. One step at a time folks, one step at a time.

I just think it is a tragic injustice that so many are incapable of keeping the faith - still finding his feet in the PL I'm sure, but BM is very good and may well manage to sneak us into 17th even without further investment in January.

And to pick up on RR's point about McDermotts sterling work on the training ground resulting in our first clean sheet, it really does help when your playing a side that's only scored 3 goals away from home all season.

We only let one in against Stoke, and didn't look like letting too many more in, so why did we suddenly have this issue since then? Or was it more a case of they were a side who struggled for goals away from home too?

I do agree it's a lot about finding your feet, but we just don't look anywhere near a side capable of sneaking 17th with some January improvements added. At this rate January may be too late (we aren't alone in this situation of course).

I'm going to repeat what I said yesterday, for those who have such RTG's that they can't read properly:

I support the team when I'm at the games, I clap, I cheer, I encourage, I sing. However, if I want to then come home and vent my spleen on here, rather than booing at the game or whatever, then I bloody well will - this is a discussion board. Everyone has opinions. Many may disagree with others opinions, but that is what a discussion board is all about. If you want to start up a forum where you can only say positive things about the club - please do - but in the meantime, some of us will point out where we think it is going wrong and debate the rights and wrongs of tactics and player choices.

I do not expect to be called a twat because of my beliefs. It is because I am so passionate about the team, that I can't bear to see us throwing it all away, that I make the comments that I do. So, may I respectfully suggest that we all listen to what others have to say and debate our differences in a rather more grown up fashion, without the constant need for name calling. At the end of the day, with one or two exceptions on this board, we are all RFC fans and we all want the club to do well.

I'm not as disheartened as some it would seem.

No, we didn't perform well yesterday in some areas, but if we can turn in a below par performance like that and still compete, then it can't be all bad...

Leigertwood was poor yesterday, and unusually, Hunt seemed to struggle to win much in the air. Roberts looked OK, but all of the strikers struggled to get in clear goal scoring situations...

Kebe needs to learn to cut the ball back - he looked a real danger to Norwich, but that's the second game running where a cutback from him could have won us the game.

Other than that, Norwich struggled to trouble us, and for most of the game we looked most likely to snatch a win. If nothing else, I felt happier with us not trying to protect a lead - let's hope we learn from that and, when we do get leads, just keep playing our 'A' game rather than dropping deep like we have been.

The only caveat to that is that Gunter seemed to struggle once Kebe came on, and Norwich created several late chances from crosses from their left....it seems we have two distinct partnerships on the right Kebe/Cummings and McLeary/Gunter and mixing them up can lead to problems....

If last year is anything to go by, it doesn't surprise me at all that we've seemingly not fired on all cylinders in the games where expectation is high - late last season was the same, we wen to West Ham, Southampton etc and got results, yet at Peterborough, we were comprehensively turned over. It would never surprise me to see us pull one out of the bag against Everton next week....

As far as the table goes, Sunderland are being dragged back ino the mire, win against them in the game-in-hand and we'll go above both them and Villa as the table stands, significantly clear of Southampyon and QPR, and less than a win behind Wigan and Norwich (Liverpool have yet to play)....

Yes, we need to start turning some of these draws into wins, but as it stands, there are 5 or 6 teams, all of whom might be imagining they need to pick up another 30-40 points for survival - we're far from alone in that, and all we have to do is better than 3 of the others....I wonder if we'll see a record low number of points required to survive this season - it certainly seems to be panning out as a possibility....

From the way some are carrying on, anyone would think we were rock bottom and already relegated....

Fair point Cypry, but don't forget this was Norwich, and a pretty poor Norwich this season.

In the same way as we shouldn't get too negative after defeats and performances such as the one against a decent Spurs side, the same perspective needs to be applied when we struggle against the likes of Norwich at home, the games we need to win in order to survive.

The QPR peformance was a lot more positive and encouraging for me.
