I'm not sure that's the reason as gay people can still have children. It's more the fact that you want your children to be like you or at least have a "pain free" life and there's still a lot of aggravation associated with being gay (aggro from people like The Siege, that is).

Stuka This is definitely Hall of Fame material. Further spin off thread potential too:

Paedophiles on our side? The last taboo

Google tells me that the last taboo is actually safe sex within the dementia society.

Not sure how that affects our performance at the weekend but it certainly adds to the debate.

I noticed that The Siege did not reappear on this thread last night, maybe his head did explode after all that ranting the other night?

My initial joy at that prospect is tempered only by the thought of the contents of his head flying out and injuring innocent passers-by.

Actually that's true. Sex and disability is definitely the last taboo.

If there are to be a number of gay players in the team, does that mean we will get to see Reading FC 'The Musical'? That way, all of the clubs problems will be melted away via spontaneous outbursts of OTT song and dance.

if we are doing massive generalisations and cliches, how aboutsome nice scatter cushions in the players lounge.

In a era where the BBC seem to think they need to ram Homosexuality down everyones throat in every availble opportunity because we are a homophobic state (alledgedly) no one realy cares about what side you bat for, whats beginning to get up my nose is the fact it so promoted, who cares what ticks your tock! and why do homosexuals need to have street parades to express this? and why its not the 1960s anymore,

Im not syaing for one minute that there are no individuals out there affaird of their own sexuality, there will always be some but i think racism is a bigger issue, so being gay as a footballer is not anything unique and no one cares.

What do people make of the "SOME PEOPLE ARE GAY! GET OVER IT!" signs on the side of many Reading Buses atm? Taking this thread as an example, it looks as if the majority of people are "over it", or not concerned by it at least. So who exactly are they shouting at? If they are targeting the likes of TheSiege, isn't he allowed to have his own opinion, despite 9/10 people thinking it's barbaric? As westongeezer said it seems the media do seem to "ram it down peoples throats" (don't know if there's a pun intended) much more than the other issues which divide society, when there seems to be no or little need.

I like the scatter cushions and musical idea.

Some other suggestions:

-Lavender coloured away kit
-Transgender Kingsley
-Rainbow corner flags
-The team come out to Don't Leave Me This Way by The Communards
-Matchday programme comes in a pink Versace wrap and a free glass of Muscadet

I don't think they've quite got the hang of that properly.

Irritated me when I first saw it, thought 'why are you shouting at me about this, I am over it', tweeted, shrugged, and carried on with my life.

Exactly! I was also asking why are we being shouted at, and I suspect that almost everyone who reads them will also just "carry on with their lives", showing that signs like this make no difference to people, whereas a group of footballers coming out together most probably would.

Don't feel it's being rammed anywhere. Given approximately 10% of the country are gay (iirc) it's entirely appropriate for TV shows to cater to homoesxuals, have homosexuals in them and deal with homosexual themes.

The comparison to the 60s is stupid. How long ago was there the first gay character in soap operas? 90s I'd hazard a guess at. It seems pretty recent to me that someone can go on a gameshow of some kind with their partner, or talk about them openly when they're same sex.

Mahoosive strides in the last 20 years. But there's still some distance to go IMO.

You probably wouldn't be able to post while it's happening.

Just like to add that with the "rammed..." expression I was quoting the previous poster. And I'm not sure if he was aware of the pun or not.
