I can't think of a single thing Shane Long is bad at. He's quick, strong, he can shoot, he can cross, he can defend, he can sing...
He'd be a better lone striker than Pogrebnyak.

Strewth i'd be a better lone striker than the Pog, all the strengths you mention of Longy the Pog doesn't have ,although not sure about singing. Fraid to say think we've bought a turkey, and should break the bank to bring Longy and Sidwell back

It was great to hear the Baggies sing out his name but I wish it was still us.

I am recalling all the anti long threads of 4 years ago, and thinking maybe we should lighten up on some of our younger players.

Geneal Football

Shane Long was mostly shit for RFC anyway. Few penalties won't change that.

Snowball Shane Long playing as he does for WBA would be
just about perfect for the current RFC

You wrote him a rhyming couplet..?

We proved last year we are a better team without Shane Long, I don't see why people are crying, it was great business. What I would say was if Brian wanted to adopt 4-5-1 then he needed a similar player to Long, something he didn't address and this was more poor judgement from him. The Pog nor Roberts are a lone striker, we all now know this.

USA_Loyal_Royal one of the sadder days of my life when he left us.

Jesus, you must have lived a fairly uneventful life.

I think you'll find the difference was Cedric Baseya.

Before him, lose at Wembley.
With him, win the league.
Release him, relegation fodder.

In Baseya we trust.

Wasn't he that superstar who scored TWICE (YES two goals in ONE game) against Reading University first team? Glorious win that was.

There was some speculation about Shane Long's ability at the end of last season (hampered by injuries etc). Another excellent performance and he's right up there with the best in the league. More and more gutted he's not ours anymore.

Harry on MOTD lapping up Long.

He is pure class. One of the best players we have ever had. How did he come from being so crap a few years ago to being so classy?

That Championship season really made him hit his potential. He's a real bully of a striker now. Him upfront with Sigurdsson behind him... just thinking about the potential of that combination for us makes me a little wet. Of course, both are now beyond our reach.

He always had more raw pace, strength, bravery, stamina and work rate than 90% of footballers, its was just a case of improving technically. He's a unique striker as he can bully with PACE and not just be a meathead Carroll or Lambert
