Tough place to go.

The job description must read

Win Premier League
Win Champions League
Win FA Cup
Win League Cup
Win Super Cup
Get value for money out of our useless centre forward.

Any blip in form may lead to immediate dismissal.

I've not got a lot of sympathy for him to be honest.

I do doubt to some extent his involvement in their success last season. From an outside view it always felt to me like it was the old guard trying to prove AVB (and Abramovich) wrong that they needed replacing and that's how they got through to and won the Champions League final.

Their League form was still quite relatively patchy under Di Matteo wasn't it? No better than AVB's from memory, and he was very lucky to get the job in the first place, let alone keep it. He didn't do a lot to move the team on and play the football that the owner wants (if anything he just reverted back to the old style that they'd been trying to progress away from) and so he was only ever a short term appointment.

He's had his moment in the sun, and will get a decent job off the back of the CL success. My gut feeling is he'll fail in his next job as well and people will go back to thinking he's not that good a manager as they did before the CL win.

Yeah, this ^

There was an interview with a WBA player basically saying that they learnt more in one training session with Hodgson than they did in the whole time Di Matteo was manager there.

Got ridiculously lucky with the CL win last season, and has shown himself to be pretty incapable of building a new team without the likes of Drogba.

The timing seems harsh on him, but for Chelsea I think it's probably the right move.

Chelsea are an absolute joke of a football club!

Can't be long before the Russian realises that he too is becoming a joke and ups and leaves, taking his ball with him.

That will be a fine day for English football.

Abramovich buys the players and if the manager can't mould them into a winning side within 4 months he sacks him.

Talk of Benitez coming in just to get the best out of Torres - Roman just can't give up on his failed investment.

Horrible club.

STATEMENT ON ROBERTO DI MATTEO
Posted on: Wed 21 Nov 2012

Chelsea Football Club has parted company this morning with Manager Roberto Di Matteo.

The team's recent performances and results have not been good enough and the owner and the Board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season.

The club faces a difficult task ahead in qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as well as maintaining a strong challenge for the top of the Premier League while competing in three other cup competitions. Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts.

The owner and the Board would like to thank Roberto for all he has done for the club since taking over in March. Roberto helped guide us to an historic Champions League victory and a seventh FA Cup. We will never forget the huge contribution he has made to this club's history and he will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge.

The club will be making an announcement shortly regarding a new first team manager.

Too be honest I never saw Di Matteo as a long term option for Chelsea but to give him a 2 year deal after wining the double last season I thought they would at least give him the season before bringing in a longer term solution.

As much as I think last year's Champions League win was somewhat lucky, i think he's been making a decent fist of this season so far given he's been without his major senior players from last season for much of it.

They're arguably playing the most attractive football in the league this season and he's managed to harness Oscar/Hazard/Mata into a wonderful creative force. Defensively they're all over the place but whoever takes the job has a rebuilding task on his hands and it's not all going to come together straight away. If Roman hadn't bottled it last season and lost his nerve, then they could well have been much further down the line towards that overhaul now.

But then as already pointed out, this is really all to do with making Torres not look like a complete waste of money.

Feel sorry for RDM.

Paid the price of mismanagement from the higher echelons of the club. How can the 5th biggest club in Europe start the season with only two recognised strikers? Buck, Gourlay, Abramovich needs to re-assess their management of the club.

It's got to be Pep Guardiola now and he needs to be given time to build the squad he wants. With the change in style of play and personnel this season, it was always going to be a bit of a re-building season.

People say stability is the key. Look at Arsenal though, how many years since they last won a trophy?

Sacking is a brutal decision so early on, but we're not privy to what goes on day in and day out at the football club.

They're barely the 5th biggest club in England, never mind Europe.
