Team for Villa

by Ian Royal » 25 Nov 2012 00:50

Dread to think what it'll actually be, but I'd quite like to see this:

....................Federici
..Mariappa..Morrison.Pearce..Shorey..
HRK*..........Guthrie..Tabb....McAnuff
.............Roberts..Le Fondre

Taylor, Harte, Cummings, Leigertwood, McCleary*, Pogrebnyak, Hunt.

Gunter and Cummings have both failed. Mariappa has experience at right back and a bit of pace. He hasn't looked great in the centre, but he may prove better than the other two.
Gorkss has been terrible, Pearce was good early doors. It's a no brainer. If Pearce can't play then Mariappa has to come into the middle instead and we can toss a coin for Gunter / Cummings at RB.
Leigertwood has been poor, his reaction speed has not been good enough and he keeps giving the ball away. We need to pass better and use midfield more. Guthrie needs to get back into the squad if only as an option off the bench to pad things out and slow it down.
ALF and Roberts aren't doing too badly, although they aren't doing brilliantly. ALF is the sort who will keep popping up with chances and putting a few away though. And Roberts holds the ball and brings us forward better than any other striker we have. We need to give that partnership time to bloom.

Of course. Ideally I'd also like McCarthy in goal and Karacan available for selection too.

*or McCleary, or Kebe. Not really fussed. HRK isn't a right winger, but he can cut inside to shoot with his left maybe. He's not played badly the last few games and I thought McCleary was mediocre when he came on. Anyway, McAnuff has been poor since he was switched to the right when he was looking good working with Shorey before.

Thats exactly the team I had in mind, but to think that McD will include Marriapa Pearce and Guthrie is just wishful thinking.

Agree with that but realistically the only change I can see happening is Mariappa coming in for Gorkss, that really needs to happen. Whether McD will actually do it is another matter.

Whats going on with Guthrie, is he actually still injured or just not playing because of his spat with McD??

Federici, Shorey, Morrison, Pearce/Mariappa, Cummings, McAnuff, Leigertwood, Guthrie, Kebe, Le Fondre, Roberts.

Would like to see Gorkss dropped in favour of Pearce OR Mariappa.
McAnuff switched back to the left - Shorey doesn't need as much support and McAnuff has not been helping Gunter out as well as he should.
Guthrie and Kebe back if fit
Keep Le Fondre and Roberts up top.

McDermott will probably go

-----------------Federici-----------------

Gunter----Morrinson----Gorkss----Shorey

Kebe-------Tabb-----L,wood------McAnuff

------------Roberts----Alf-----------------

I would go

-------------------Taylor---------------------

Cummings--Morrinson--Mariappa--Shorey

McCleary----Guthrie-----Tabb-----HRK

--------------Roberts---Alf-------------

If we are winning and in traditional fashion the game starts to change around 60mins

I would make these subs

back 4 as normal

Midfield

I'd bring on L,wood for Tabb (60min)
Hunt can play RM as he has energy and willing to throw himself about (70min)
McAnuff on for Alf and then move Hunt up top

Roberts needs to play 90mins as he has the experience at this level.

Absolutely right about right back, our weakest position. I'd be tempted to start Pogrebnyak instead of LeFondre. Alfie was wasteful yesterday, and i can't help that think the Pog would've knocked at least one of them in.

Interesting to see that everyone has included Tabb in their teams, despite slating him earlier this season and last......

Don't forget Harte has played at centre back and is left footed.

Hmm, don't honestly think he'd be worse than Gorkss on current form.

I'd have:
GK Taylor (McCarthy if he was fit)
RB Cummings
CB Morrison
CB Pearce
LB Shorey
RW Kebe (if fit, if not then move McCanuff over to right and play HRK on left)
LW McCanuff
ST Roberts
ST Le Fondre

I've left out central midfielders because I have no idea who's fit. Tabb even got a knock yesterday apparently so we could be in right shit. I would have the top two fit midfielders from this pecking order:
1) Karacan
2) Tabb
3) Guthrie
4) Leigertwood
5) Gunnarsson

Subs: Federici, Harte, Mariappa, Pog, Hunt, HRK, best fit CM we have from said pecking order. (If HRK is starting because Kebe isn't fit then put on McCleary, if there is no more fit Cente mids then put in McLeary. If he is needed for both then put Samuel or Obita or someone because we are seriously running out of players!)

He's the best we have got at present. Playing well enough to be on the bench for some PL sides but a starter in ours.

Against the pace of Villa it would be suicide to go with our current center back pairing. That said I'm not certain what Pearce would add!

Taylor is terrible, i'd rather play Sal Bibbo. Can't we play Mikkel Andersen?

Don't know if we did but would be surprised if we didn't as we only have 25 overage players on our books. It would seem silly not to.
