Lacoste People go on about Brian not having a very good squad, well he built this squad so its a stupid argument.

Anyway, been told today that Anton doesn't trust Brian with the good sum if funds we have available in Jan but at the same token doesn't want to piss the Reading fans off loyal to Brian and needs a decent reason to sack him. A loss to Villa on Tuesday and he will be gone with Advocaat coming in. He has also spoken to Hiddink.

Once again, I have no reason to lie and neither does my Brother in law who has access to this information through being close to members of London Irish and Reading FC boards . Anton wants his own man in

I'm sorry but why the hell would Dick Advocaat want to come to us? I've heard the rumours as well, but hes been the manager of several top European clubs. This would only be a massive downward step for him with the greatest of respect and the only reason he would join us is if AZ offered him a large salary. I'd rather have a manager who is passionate about the club, rather than one looking for a decent pension pot.

Once were Biscuitmen Sweet Jesus, will we have to endure this mongfest every time we lose a game?

There are at least 17 teams with higher value squads than ours.
There are almost certainly at least 17 teams with higher wage bills than ours.
There are almost certainly at least 17 teams with higher revenues and/or more indulgent sugar daddies than ours.
We were favorites for relegation before the season started for a reason.

A little appreciation of football context and a recognition that there are worse things than relegation from the premier league would make for a more interesting debate.

It should be clear now that Anton is basically only a slightly more wealthy version of SJM. We don't have masses of cash to throw around or the desire to engage in financial doping.

So..... why does a side henceforth best known for half a century in the third tier suddenly expect survival to be guaranteed by December or the manager has to go?

It's this kind of bend-over-and-lube-up attitude that really pisses me off.

We're little old Reading........

All the other teams have more money........

We should be pleased to be here.........

We should be able to compete, but the team are not being managed properly.

Anyone that can handle egos instead of just dropping them, and someone that plays football would excite me.

So on that basis do we replace half the squad too then?! That will work halfway through the season...not

The supporters will almost be split in half...

I really just hope BM resigns instead of being sacked.
But then do I secretly want him to resign?

Uh? A few of our players have been dropped when they've spoken out of turn. That happens at every club at this level but they don't all get dropped. The manager doesn't cut off his nose to spite his face. He deals with it and they play their football. McDermott drops them and gives his hungry hard-working overachievers from last season a go.

Replace half the squad? I'd suggest a new manager be given the chance to bring in 3-4 new faces in January.

IF he went it would be a "mutual agreement". After what he has done, they will never come out & sack him. They will give him the push in as dignified a manner as possible. I would be properly gutted though I have to say.

There's literally been a rizla paper between us getting a result & not in more than half of the games. After all he has done, it is cruel he is being talked about like this.

If he'd lost in the play-offs, he would comfortably be in a job now & everyone would have given him a huge pat on the back for doing well with such a limited team.

The man has absolutely over achieved - way more than Coppell, Pardew & this is the thanks he gets.

Football is harsh, cruel & I hate the way this season is panning out. :(

You are missing my point entirely. They can't play football very well.

+1. I don't want McDermott to go yet.

For a club like ours it is hard to say what a demoralising season might do in terms of future plans. Yes, most are sensible enough to know that we are unlikely to become ridiculous spenders or CL material but what about growing the club? Perhaps the established support will know enough not to expect too much, but the team spirit and overachieving thing is bollocks. Most of the teams in the championship are shit, it's competitive yes, but most of the clubs are no bigger than us now. Of course it's great to have won the league, but it's not so against the odds as we might think.

Then when we get a chance to actually see something decent we seem to have half an eye on coming down. F**k that, yes, keep within our means but that doesn't mean having to watch the same crap most weeks. It's being short changed that is most likely to hinder further progression. There are a few clubs overachieving our overachieving, one of whom we played on saturday with limited support no matter how good they are. BM should be open to new philosophies and adapt so at least we don't play like cup minnows all the time, even if we do get relegated you need something positive to get behind not just a novelty feeling.

Isn't it funny how last year we only got promoted because Brian over achieved, yet this year we are struggling because of what the players do on the field...................

How has he over achieved way more than Coppell? Are you really suggesting that Coppell wasn't a victim of Madejski's financial approach? He didn't suffer much cloth cutting because he wasn't given much cloth in the first place. What's more, much of the cloth cut from Brian was that weaved from Coppell's achievements. Both did brilliantly for us in The Championship. One did far better on getting promoted to the PL.

So true. For years Wigan have shown that 'The Wigan Way' is far more effective than 'The Reading Way'.

What are you actually saying though?

It's quite understandable that what is ultimately a top to mid-table championship squad & a manager with no PL experience may struggle a bit. Or isn't it?

For me the point is BM is not picking his best team

Come on how can u leave Pearce out over Gorkks

Even putting Guthrie on the bench would be a start just to give us a option in the second half when we seem to fade badly

And Gunter well. Wigan saw our weakness and exploited it fully down our right

Just play the the best team BM

For what it's worth I agree about Gunter & Gorkss. I don't know how you solve the problem of CM though. Lets be honest, it's been an issue for 6 years now.

The idea is to strengthen when you get promoted and before the season starts. McDermott had the opportunity to do this and failed dismally.

The idea is to learn quickly from your mistakes. McDermott is proving to be a slow learner.

And we are struggling more than a bit.

I reckon we could have got Sidwell, which would have helped. And if it's been an issue for that long, why didn't McDermott do something about it before?

and the "Reading way" is to show loyalty to the players that got us to these dizzy heights......for a few weeks at least

Judge BM 6 weeks after the transfer window closes
