Who could we realistically bring in to replace Leigertwood or Tabb because of injury then? Jake Taylor? Tshibola? Losasso? I haven't seen much of them so I don't know who would fit best. Have been very impressed with Tshibola on the 2 occasions I have seen him though.

Tshibola looks a talent, but still very young, Josh Webb is the closest to a Tabb replacement but looks to have a pass on him.

Not really got a midfield enforcer like Leigertwood in the academy. Everyone I've seen actually seems to be quite short...

Personally I don't think D'Ath is that far away although the mere fact that we seem to be allowing him to be cup tied this weekend suggests they think differently to me.

He has certain limitations (he's not the best passer in the world) but from what I've seen and read he's got a good engine, can put his foot in and more importantly perhaps for his long term future he's a genuine goalscoring midfielder.

ZacNaloen Another midfield injury and we will have to bring in one of the U21's...

Perhaps we should play all of them.

They seem to be able to hang on to a lead.

Some of them can't be far off. And we have some players who can actually pass the ball in there as well.

Two contradictory sentences there...

Fifa let Mallorca sign Barca centre half on an emergency loan the other week (http://www.insidespanishfootball.com/ba ... a-on-loan/)

Normally only keepers but for some reason they got him..........so we could use that as a way to pick up a decent centre mid before January

melonhead
Royal91 Brilliant so the only player that can pass has now had a bust up. If I were Guthrie and the manager kept putting a second rate winger in CM and taking me off I would be pissed off!

Not only that he sees Tabb lining up in front of him. McDermott has to realise this is a results business not lets play a shit player because he's a nice guy.

think guthrie has to realise that while since when he is played he gives the bal away as much as anyone in the team, doesnt work as hard, and has shown precious little of his vaunted creativity, that he should probably stop moaning and blaming everyone else, and start looking at how he can improve his game, and that of the team

Well, that isn't true as statistically

1) he is our most accurate passer
2) on average makes the second highest number of passes per game
3) Has made the second highest amount of key passes per game

IMO those stats are an indictment of Guthrie

Just 1.5% ahead of ALF, 3.5% ahead of Elwood
who wins ten times as many tackles, fights for 90 minutes
and has scored 2 goals already?

I don't think 80% is great for a man who's supposed to be the ball-playing play-maker

I'd expect a play maker to have a lower pass completion as I'd expect him to be taking more risks in his passing.

Tbh 'Elwood' should have 100% given all he should be playing is 10 yard passes to the wing

I always thought Guthrie played as a CM for Newcastle, but for Reading he's been thrown in as CAM.

He's only had a couple chances as a CM in a 4-4-2 and on both occasions Roberts was missing. One of those games we had 59% possession

Guthrie trending on Twitter. Newcastle fans want him back. A number of their fans putting their struggles down to not having that creative link that Guthrie provided. Want him back in January.

Can take him back if they chuck us a couple of million. Still think he has something to offer but if we get funds to try again to get that midfielder with 'the right DNA' I'm all for it.

Interesting that Guthrie is supposedly back in training from this morning, and knew he was going to be back 5 days ago.

That's pretty much 4 weeks to the day he was dropped (and this thread started) and before he then picked up his injury. If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd suggest that he was given a 4 week break to learn how we do things.

I'm not sure how he can be supposed to learn how we do things without training with us. What's he supposed to have been doing? Reading HNA?

Watching? Maybe training on his own or with the kids but not disrupting the first team squad for an important month?

I'm not sure, I'm not really one for conspiracy theories so I wouldn't like to say.

Or more likely, the physio said to him that you're looking good but a couple more days following the program to build up fitness or strength in the injured area and you can re-join the full squad for training after the Wigan game.
