MmmMonsterMunch "And as a final point, to the "fans" who booed the team off at half time who were sat a few rows behind me last night, I hope you're happy the boys got the result you were obviously so keen to see."

Quoted from the match thread from reading_fan at the game.

Ascotexgunner and I thought Cummings was barged into the net to stop him clearing it off the line! :x

I noticed this on the replay they showed on the screens in the ground. Not seen much mention of it elsewhere though, but Cummings was rather forcefully shoved into the net when it looked like he may have half a chance to head it clear.

If Cummings hadn't been bundled into the net he would have cleared that header off the line. Although it would be harsh to say it was a foul because the Villa player was simply going for the ball to make sure it went in.

MmmMonsterMunch Booing at HT last night when you're 0-0 away from home....the mind boggles.

What sort of 'fans' are these people?!

From Fordham's report:

He then put the best chance of the half on a plate for Andreas Weimann who, in acres of space could only find the top row of the North Stand. As they have consistently done so far this season, it was no suprise Villa were booed off at half-time.

But Royals’ travelling brigade of less than 1,000 were more forgiving of their team – knowing they have produced late miracles in the past.

There most definitely booing from our fans. The bloke in front made a special point of being as loud as he could be.

Booing is a legitimate way to motivate the players. If the manager is unable to get a performance out of the team then the fans have to help the manager by motivating them.

Yup, agreed. Fouled, but not deliberately so probably about right that it wasn't given. Would have been especially harsh to disallow the goal for that though!

You sure about that? Surely the only people actually motivated by booing are pantomime dames? (Insert your own joke footballers and pantomime season/panto dames here!)

Avon Royal A battle would be nice.

The French put up more of a fight than us.

We've only lost one game by more than a goal. I'm as fcking depressed as anyone right now but try not to be such a cvnt.

Dont be such a dick Avon. We might not be up to scratch in terms of Premiership quality, in fact we're rubbish, but we are hardly ever out fought. Thats why we are in the top divison. 3 seasons running we have had an average championship team, the results over 150 odd games under BM speak for themselves. We continually get results that are beyond the ability of our players, thats why we won the league. We managed to beat an excellent Everton team with a bit of luck and sheer will to win, last ditch blocks and tackles all over the place. Thats something to be proud of. You can go and draw up a list of games where we have been outfought if you like, but it wont take you long.

Abuse, always the hallmark of a credible argument.

In any event, my comment about lack of fight was made in relation the the approach of the Club to the Premier League campaign, not the players in individual matches.

Equally, the approach of the club might well be in relation to a stated 5 year plan, where they are looking a bit further ahead than a dozen or so games into year one.

A 5 year plan to get to the Premier League that starts with relegation from the Premier League? It's an innovative plan that's for sure......

Get unexpectedly promoted.

Realise this means your investors will be saved a fortune.

Take the relegation.

Use the money from that year in the prem to finance what you would have had to pay for.. in order to get to the prem in 3 years and consolidate over 2 years.

I don't agree with it though. We are there now, we should be trying to consolidate.

what if the only way we can get the money to consolidate and grow is by taking the relegation and parachutes?

i agree, that if you have a big pile of disposable money, the best way would be to gamble now, and hope your gamble is bigger/better than the otherteams who are in the mix
but if you dont have a big pile of disposable money.......

Really that, all depends on the size of the pockets of Anton and his besties which we don't really know the answer to.

id imagine that his pockets are quite shallow, and the combined pocket of his investors are deeper, but still not massively deep, and more importantly they wouldnt really want him gambing tens of millions of the money in that combined pocket on the dubious and risky venture of trying to buyyourself an extended stay in the prem.

given that he gave us a budget, which we spent, i think we can use that to in some way estimate the size of their combined pockets, and their willingness to throw what money is in those pockets potentially down a drain
