Spacey spotted one mistake but missed two others.

Frankly, I think the writer undersells that remarkable season.

The wolves game was my first time, was on the south bank and 16 - though I subsequently took to the Tilehurst End and still prefer watching games from behind the goal.

I seem to remember the "we're gonna score in a minute" chant leading to a Kevin Brebner bundled effors around that period, but it might not have been that season....

It was proper long ball stuff though

Thanks for the comments folks (I'm the author). Apologies also for the error which has now been corrected - not sure how the 2 season thing had lodged into my head. Others have referred to one or two extra errors which I would also be happy to amend if people can point them out.

As regards the depth of the piece, the site is a pan-football one and not just aimed at Reading fans. I'd love to have given a blow by blow acount of every game and a deeper analysis of the players but we hope to strike a balance between creating something of interest for Reading fans and others who may be interested (for instance, a Watford fan of facebook has linked to a piece providing a wildly different piece about Trevor Senior). The series is now 40 pieces strong and this is the first time we have covered Reading (1993-4, 1994-5 and 2005-6 are hopefully to come among others) but we did cover Terry Bullivant's 1997-8 team in another series:

14th game of the season - not 14th home game.

Gillingham match was New Year's Day not Boxing Day. HTH!

Good article and well researched.

As someone said, the Gillingham game was on New Year's Day and before kick-off we were NINETEEN points clear and our record was P24 W20 D2 L2. Our record after that was a distinctly average P22 W9 D5 L8. We did enough in the first half of the season to clinch promotion.

I just like the general feel of the article.

So what if a couple of details aren't quite correct; any idiot can do a google search and put up a list of facts but it's far more interesting in this stat orientated age of pedants to write something that reflects the actual feel and emotion of that period of time.

Better than 2005/06 - P24 W18 D5 L1.

The 1985/86 side was like a steam-roller that came out of nowhere.
