El Diablo I don't give a toss for Guthries reasons why he wont travel - its an utter disgrace and I dont want players who behave like this playing for my club.

Clearly he's trying to engineer a way out...someone please show him the door.

If that's the case then good luck to him. Maybe he'll find a manager that doesn't write him off after two poor games, whilst managing a squad that would struggle in the Championship on current form.

I am sure he will be paid off in January. Otherwise he will be training the rest of the season with the under 18s.

cmonurz Not supporting Guthrie refusing to travel - but he has been very poorly treated indeed. In Guthrie's position we'd all been tearing our hair out.

Why he was rubbish when he was playing. What has he done so far to deserve to be first choice. He needed to come off the bench and prove how good he could be - not to refuse to travel.

MoTM against Chelsea. Got Premier League experience. Can pass. Not been utter dogshit like Leigertwood.

Don't like how he's handling this. But tbh I think McDermott's been a oxf*rd joke since the season started so I'm actually inclined to side with Guthrie. I know I'd tell McDermott to oxf*rd off if he wouldn't play me, I had Guthrie's quality and I'd been watching that steaming pile of shit play.

winchester_royal Would have done exactly the same in Guthrie's position.

The guy's a human being, with a family, at what should be the peak of his career, and he is getting fcked about by a manager who refuses to play him ahead of two shockingly average footballers.

Don't give me all this 'professional' crap. There have been no problems with him at any other club. This is a man-management failure from the promises made when he signed in the summer that has carried on throughout the season. Footballer's aren't machines, they are like employees at any other firm, and if any of us had been treated like this by our superiors we'd all be pulling sickies too (regardless of our pay packet).

And now McDermott is trying to take the heat off himself by airing something that should be kept in-house. Pathetic.

If you worked for me with that attitude I would sack you immediately. Ridiculous. You are paid to do a job and you do it. The manager picks the team and players should respect that.

Fully agree, particularly with McDermott's lack of professionalism in using Guthrie to get himself out of the heat. SSC would not have done that. Hands down the better manager.

can see guthrie's frustration as we do have a shocking midfield with him crying out to give us creativity however instead of throwing a strop he should of taken it on the chin and tried to prove himself, he has now made things 10 times worse for himself meaning most likely he wont play for us again

ManchesterRoyals And thats what pisses me and a lot of people on here off play ur best oxf*rd team

I take it you're at the training ground everyday, watching how Guthrie reacts and works with the other players? How he integrates himself with the rest of the squad? How his peers view him?

Managing a team is far more than just picking the best players. Guthrie may well be the best ball player at the club, but if his attitude is poor, then it'll have a detrimental affect on the squad. Brian has given him plenty of chances to be involved in the match day squads recently and hasn't picked him, despite admitting that he doesn't have enough quality. And yet he still doesn't pick Guthrie. That speaks volumes.

Matt Mills was a difficult bastard to work with, yet McDermott made him captain and got the best out of him. All the players speak highly of Brian and have a great respect for him. If he were a bad man manager, then he wouldn't have earned that respect.

Good managers know how to handle all types of players and avoid these situations occurring. McDermott has shown he can only handle a certain type of player and has completely mishandled Guthrie.

I was one of those who questionned Guthrie's character at the time we signed him but having decided to do so, the onus was on McDermott to handle that character.
