Royals-lad14 can see guthrie's frustration as we do have a shocking midfield with him crying out to give us creativity however instead of throwing a strop he should of taken it on the chin and tried to prove himself, he has now made things 10 times worse for himself meaning most likely he wont play for us again

Until McDermott gets sacked which is now inevitable. It's just a question of how long it takes and how bloody minded Anton and SJM are.

I take it you're at the training ground everyday, watching how Guthrie reacts and works with the other players? How he integrates himself with the rest of the squad? How his peers view him?

Managing a team is far more than just picking the best players. Guthrie may well be the best ball player at the club, but if his attitude is poor, then it'll have a detrimental affect on the squad. Brian has given him plenty of chances to be involved in the match day squads recently and hasn't picked him, despite admitting that he doesn't have enough quality. And yet he still doesn't pick Guthrie. That speaks volumes.

Matt Mills was a difficult bastard to work with, yet McDermott made him captain and got the best out of him. All the players speak highly of Brian and have a great respect for him. If he were a bad man manager, then he wouldn't have earned that respect.

I very much doubt all the players speak highly of him anymore. Indeed FL's sources suggest the opposite.

No FL suggested dressing room is split with most supporting Brian. The suggestion was that there were three desenters (Guthrie plus ??). The obvious two are Roberts and HRK as they are "injured" but very hard to belive in the case of HRK. Cannot be good for morale though whoever it is.

To be honest I'm unsure about McDermott's man management skills. I wasn't too happy with how he dealt with Federici and Pearce earlier this season, and there's also rumours of a fallout with Roberts now.

winchester_royal Would have done exactly the same in Guthrie's position.

The guy's a human being, with a family, at what should be the peak of his career, and he is getting fcked about by a manager who refuses to play him ahead of two shockingly average footballers.

Don't give me all this 'professional' crap. There have been no problems with him at any other club. This is a man-management failure from the promises made when he signed in the summer that has carried on throughout the season. Footballer's aren't machines, they are like employees at any other firm, and if any of us had been treated like this by our superiors we'd all be pulling sickies too (regardless of our pay packet).

And now McDermott is trying to take the heat off himself by airing something that should be kept in-house. Pathetic.

#McDermottOUT

Fully agree, particularly with McDermott's lack of professionalism in using Guthrie to get himself out of the heat. SSC would not have done that. Hands down the better manager.

He was asked a direct question and he answered it honestly! When he was questioned about the game, he said it was a poor performance.

We are talking about Guthrie because of Guthrie's actions, not McDermott's.

Looking more and more like there was substance in it. McDermott has lost the dressing room and a large part of the stands.

If I was a player going up to Sunderland on a freezing Tuesday to try to get a result, I'd be a tad pissed off if a team mate decided he didn't think it was worth the trip ... some players might admire him for making a stand, but tbh I think most would think wtf.

As I said, if McDermott feels that his presence in the side would create divisions, then he is right not to pick him. You need everyone pulling in the same direction, regardless of your position in the league. I'm sure Brian is aware that our midfield (in fact, most of our squad) is woefully lacking in quality, but if by playing Guthrie you risk upsetting the players who are giving you everything they've got, then you don't play him.

And as for treating him badly, do me a favour! He earns a fortune, far more than most of our squad, and yet you don't see the likes of Pearce complaining and he has a right to complain. Maybe he's constantly in McDermott's ear, but we don't hear about it and when he was asked to play on Saturday and tonight, he got his head down and got on with the job. Guthrie should take a leaf out of Pearce's book.

Why does Pearce have a right to complain, but Guthrie not?

Esteban and yet you don't see the likes of Pearce complaining and he has a right to complain

That's because he isn't tied down to a three year contract and knows he can piss off to wherever he wants when we go down.

I can't believe people on here are backing Guthrie over Brian McDermott and Reading Football Club.

Your head's not right? Stop acting thecunt, get on the damn bus and start earning your wages. Guthrie can absolutely do one as far i'm concerned.

"Do one" must be the most overused term used on this board.
