winchester_royal 4 aways against 4 sides in the bottom 6..

And two of those were in the north. We don't travel well....

Actually, we've never had a great record playing in the North East, whatever division we've been in.

Second thoughts, I don't know what our record is like at places like Scunthorpe, Hartlepool or Darlington. :| Going further, what about Hull and Grimsby???

Where's strap?

Gr8 excuse, if only the premiership was divided into regional divisions by a retard eh..

Big Ern First showed still a lot of support for Brian, the second after the Southampton game showed many had changed their minds, although not an overwhelming percentage in giving him the boot.. What will it look like tonight after not only losing, but making Sunderland look like Real Madrid.

Vote with your heads, not with your hearts.

I choose to vote with my heart. Brian got us to the Prem and I still believe he can work miracles. "If it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger!" Give Brian the time....and TEAM he deserves. We are NOT that far from that team right now, and a message from the Owners to the Team, that BRIAN is their Man, and that they will back him all the way to 2014, will take some of the Stress that is slowly destroying the TEAM in T....E.....A.....M!

Keep Him!

It's not an excuse, it's mitigating circumstances. Could you perform any better (in any job) after travelling for 4+ hours?

I agree with Spacey - I mean imagine the jetlag and the fact they have to sit in luxury on a private plane - it must kill them having to do that a whole 24hrs before their "job" starts

clauski If people seriously think Guthrie is the saviour then the world has gone nuts. Guthrie, Pog, even when playing neither has exactly shone. We lack quality, Brian probably feels more chance of getting his trusted players performing than half hearted 'stars'. Fact is we blew it in the summer and who knows whose fault that is? A change will do no good, we're screwed either way!

It's not a case of Guthrie being the saviour, it's a case of him being a midfielder with Premier League experience when our side is crying out for strengthening in that department (both in quality and numbers in certain tactical situations).

In the cold light of day the situation becomes even clearer.

This season is turning into an unmitigated disaster and the manager has to carry a great deal of blame for that.

With the exception of Shorey, his summer transfer dealings have proven to be poor to say the least. On the pitch our results and performances (throwing away games from winning positions) have been dreadful and the standard and style of 'football' generally dire. He has stubbornly persisted in sticking with 4-4-2 despite our midfield being overrun in every game and equally stubbornly has refused to use all of the resources available to him. He has publically fallen out with players (destroying the unity that has served him so well in the past) and there are now signs that he is losing the dressing room (as someone said on BBCRB last night, are the 'injured' players injured physically or mentally. His handling of the Guthrie situation has been extremely poor culminating in him seemingly using criticism of Guthrie last night to deflect attention away from the team and his own failings. Yes, Guthrie's reaction was wrong but it is all damn convenient for McDermott to claim after the event that 'he would definitely have been involved in the game tonight'. Had Guthrie actually been told that before the game? If so, his reaction seems even more strange. Or had he been told that he would be on the bench but probably get brought on at some point? In which case his reaction becomes more understandable given the failings of the midfield v Saints. Or had he been told nothing at all? In which case poor man management by McDermott and whilst Guthrie's reaction was still stupid it becomes very understable.

So McDermott has failed dreadfully this season and, despite his past achievements has to go as he has shown no sign of being able to turn things around. And if Madejski is in any way to blame as well, for example by persuading Anton that things could be achieved on the cheap, then he should be given his marching orders too.

When does your no-wifi holiday start? Your posts actually manage to be more tedious and repetitive than our midfield play.

I think people just need to accept that winning the Championship does not make you a good manager - look at Ian Dowie; didn't he take the Championship by storm with Crystal Palace one season taking them from the relegation zone to the Premiership via a winning streak? And look what he's done since then .... I think McD just doesn't have the experience or temperament to survive in the Prem - the problem is that if we replace him we need someone who has experience of surviving with a weak team and not some manager who has managed to turn around a failing team of stars (like Harry did at Tottenham).

Says a pompous **** and the worst moderator ever inflicted on us. Please feel free to add me to your ignore list.

Mind you, strange how you adopt that stance when many of your posts actually reflect the same sentiments.

Incidentally you have more posts than me so I suspect a fair amount of repetition and tedium is evident in them too.

Time to go. He's now out of his depth and the team are showing it. No tactical nous, no spirit.

Furthermore, we're told there's no or little money to spend in January. So wtf was the takeover for if we still don't have any cash?!

So who would have "the depth" to avoid defeat/relegation with the players available to McDermott last night?

A club like ours, at it's current state of development, will never be unaffected with all of McCarthy, Morrison, Karacan, Kebe, HRK, Roberts and the twat Guthrie injured/unavailable.

I strongly suspect that the vast majority of us who want Brian to stay will also still be here next season regardless whilst many glory hunting idiots, who we don't see for dust when we are in the second tier, are in the other camp.

If promotion turns our to be a bridge too far for us this season, sacking the man who was good enough to get us here would be a massive own goal, especially when his efforts over the last decade have done so much to ensure that a very decent young squad is largely in place for a Championship campaign along with 4 seasons of parachute payments.

Even I'm beginning to wonder now and I'm one of McDermott's staunchest supporters. However, I like to look at the big picture and what Brian has done overall in his tenure has been fantastic. Everyone goes through short-term blips.

I am going to ignore the short-term blip and back him for the long-term. I would only fire him if we have a poor season next year in the Championship and I won't judge him until the end of next season. I would give McDermott a season and a half before I would sit down and do a review. If the picture was looking bleak in a season and a half only then would I ever consider letting the man go.

If the management of the club reacted as poorly as many of the supporters to short-term blips we would be changing managers as often as QPR and I don't think that approach is sensible.

IF, a genuine RFC fan wants McDermot to go, that doesn't necessarily mean
that the fan believes another manager can turn things round, that we might
yet see a miracle.

Nor does it mean that said fan is "ungrateful" for the manager's previous work.

Nor does it mean that the fan believes, necessarily, that the manager is inept or out of his depth.

It might just be that the fan believes that accumulating circumstances have made
the manager's position as leader of the current team in the current circumstances untenable.

Sometimes things just go wrong for a team or a business and change is needed.

That might mean that the manager goes, takes a break, goes somewhere else
and then becomes a major success. Look, for example at Mister Brendan Rodgers,
sacked, then leading Swansea to the Premiership, now turning Liverpool around

Different fans have different reasons.

I was really backing him and didn't think our poor form was McDermotts fault. But now looking at what seems to be going on with Guthrie and a really poor performance up at Sunderland, I wonder if McDermott is beginning to lose the dressing room and if he has handled big characters badly. Maybe some of what has been happening is attributable to McDermott. However, I still have lots of confidence in Brian McDermott and I think he can overcome the current difficulties. If Mcdermott was to go someone else would have to overcome these problems. I don't see any reason why McDermott can't be the man to turn our fortunes around. The fact is we were never really good enough for the top flight with this squad and I don't think that can be pinned on McDermott, it is just a fact of life.

The truth is, McDermott has continued to take the playing team forward despite losing key players at critical times and having a small budget to work with. Our squad this year is better than it was last year. Maybe it's not good enough for the top level. But McDermott is making progress and you cannot build a team overnight. January is coming, another chance to improve the playing squad. The summer will come and McDermott can improve things again. I would stick with McDermott. The premier league is a hostile, unforgiving division. It doesn't take any prisoners. But looking through all the gloom and fog, I can see a manager doing a good job and taking the club forward. That is why I would back him to the hilt, support him fully and why I have total confidence in the man who is only the second man in history to take Reading to the top level.

Exactly.

If >20% of internet messageboarding fans want to keep the manager, 95% of those at the stadium will be right behind him!

The more I read all the crap on here the more I almost want us to sack Mcdermott, go down with 9 points total and end up bankrupt in non league.

Any blame needs to be deflected towards TSI. Even Sir Clothcutter paid the odd transfer fee in the premierleague. Its looking more and more like Brian didn't have much influence over this summers transfer policy...

Still a loss making championship club ain't worth very much, so if they're serious they need to correct their mistake in Jan, big time.
