apparently since day 1 guthrie's distanced himself from the team. literally turns up at training and shoots off home again never to be seen till match day or the next training session. surely when joining a new team its better to get involved and socialise with the rest of the team but he spends most his time up in newcastle. just doesnt seem to do himself any favours...

I've been a fan of Guthrie and I do think he has been harshly treated by Brian in the past although we don't know what goes at training etc, BUT who the oxf*rd does guthrie think he is? As far as I'm concerned he should leave in January.
He was the signing I was most excited in the summer, but apart from a free kick that Cech spilt he hasn't done too much.

Yes Guthrie has acted like a bit of a twat (and I dont think he anything particularly special as a player), but fair play to him for not wanting to play the shit style of football that McD is still forcing on everyone. Blinded by the fact it worked for us last year, but Guthrie can see it wont work in the PL and he has more experience at this level than McD (LOL)

Royalclapper The way I see it is that Guthrie is obviously being a tart.

However, Brian McD has not yet earned the right to start playing the football Messiah. The reason managers like Sir Alex Ferguson can drop players and sell them if they don't like it is because he's dam well earned the right to do it and has a thoroughbred track record to back it up.

Top managers have got their hands dirty at clubs a hell of a lot smaller than Reading and shown their mettle. I'm afraid Brian, a play-off and a championship promotion just isn't enough to give you that right yet. The last few away games have been an absolute joke, and I couldn't care less how small the budget was, he had some money, the players were out there, and the team is shyte. No manager worth his salt would watch 3 games like that and still think they're above some criticism. You've not earned that untouchable status for me yet Mr McD.

6 players- 5 million quid
its not a case of thinking the games have been ok/squad is fine, its clear from his statements about january that he knows they werent.
i fail to see what ranting about how shit all his players is going to do to those players until january though

and frankly if a play off final and championship win in two full seasons, on a shoe string isnt enough for you, then nothing will ever be.

Here here Brenders. Why do you think McD signed him? Brian has to take some of the blame for that.

i think he was signed to start changing the way we played, along with pog, i think he was signed cos he was hungry for first team football, was a quality player and had premiere league experience, and because brian hoped hed be able to manage his dodgy temperament.

clearly a massive failure, and a massive mistake, on brians part

Don't give up yet Brendy! Maybe this is all part of a Brian masterclass in man-management..

Rubbish he's a moody, ungrateful git who probably gets paid 30k a week. He should be professional and strive to do his best whether he is playing or not. Sack Guthrie now

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but there will be an 'exclusive' interview with Guthrie in tomorrow's Chronicle;

Could be interesting...

Problem with the Chronicle is when it comes to news, it's basically Readings version of The Sun

The problem now is the Arsenal and City matches are not the right games for Guthrie. They keep the ball so well we need destroyers in the team. We needed him against the shit teams we've just played.

Royal With Cheese Can't stand all the fuss.

He didn't set the team alight when he played.

He doesn't have the right to demand first team football.

^^^^this, he seems to get better every game he doesn't play. He'll be the next Messi by Jan
