There are 'rumours' tonight that we have approached a Championship club for their manager. Exciting or what!

Bollocks or not, shall we play along and guess who?

I vote Poyet.

Surely in keeping with the Reading Way, it's got to be Steve Shorey next hasn't it?

He plays football on the floor. I'd be happy with that.

The rumours, source unverified and from what I can see unreliable, say it's a Championship manager with Premier League Managerial experience.

But for the sake of it;

That limits us to;
Tony Mowbray? (in post since October 2010)
Nigel Pearson? (caretaker in the Premier League - in post since November 2011)
Neil Warnock? (in post since February)
Dave Jones? (in post since March)
Steve Bruce? (in post since June)
Mick McCarthy? (in post since November)
Ian Holloway? (in post since November)

Tony Mowbray then?

You could add Poyet to that list for his work with Tottenham when he was there as assisstant manager or something.

I don't believe the rumour, though.

I don't either, but happy to play along. We do need something drastic to change, if that's the man at the top or those supporting him.

Some twitter account posted it with someone else backing it up who has a reliable reputation.

Mark Hughes usually does a good job when he is in charge at a situation like Reading FC.

When he is given a ton of cash to splash, that's when he tends to underperform expectations.

But when he is on a tight budget and is forced to spend wisely, he tends to do a very good job and overperform expectations. He did well at Blackburn and Fulham on tight budgets, but struggled at City and Rangers when he had cash to spend.

I would plump for Hughes if we could get him.

But by the way. I am fully behind McDermott and my first choice would be our current incumbent.

He's managing through a storm. Let's at least give him the chance to see if he can navigate such choppy waters instead of firing him just because there is a storm.

He did actually. If you hadn't noticed, they stayed up.
