Tactics are the main reason we are failing IMO.

If we hadn't bought anyone & instead spent the entire pre-season honing a style of play that would make us hard to beat, i.e. 2 banks of 5 if necessary, I would wager we would be 'competing' and not cut adrift right now.

Can, can can attach blame to a manager consistently making bad decisions, seemingly alienating multiple players - Guthrie, Pearce, Pog's latest comments, Roberts disappearing, Federici. If it was just Guthrie, fine. But it's not is it.

But I'm not going round in circles with you, you disagree, but you would, because you're rabidly pro club and refuse to apportion blame even when there clearly is some.

The only way we had a hope of surviving this season was to be hard to beat. Not letting in 3 so having to score 4. Utterly stupid.

You can certainly blame McDermott if the way he's treated his players leaves them feeling ostracised and not part of 'the group'.

It's the managers job to manage the personalities within the squad. From the outside it looks like he's been failing on that front too.

True, you can't pin everything on Brian.

However, an overly cantankerous persona is obviously having some negative effects on certain players and it's not doing the club any favours at all. We can't move on........until the faultlines in the squad are repaired. Should be more give and take going on.

The pearce thing is really stupid - Wenger hasn't dropped Walcott for not signing a new contract or Van Persie last year or Fabrigas year before etc etc??

One or two... fine you get unlucky and there's a bad apple sometimes. But four or five or six? Hell yes, I completely agree McDermott takes some blame.

Maybe if he'd gone with a system that wasn't predominantly hoof and hope and persisted with Guthrie for more than two poor games we might be a little better off, with far less disruption in the side and a squad that hasn't totally fallen apart. Of course that doesn't forgive Guthrie for being a twat. But then we always say that the individual and attitude is as important as the quality, so McDermott should have known what might happen if he told Guthrie to pass less and refused to play him ahead of a woeful midfield devoid of all passing talent. Because he should have scouted the person as well as the player.

But of course you know all this Hoop, it was more for Brendy's benefit.

so does that mean you are happy to forfeit points in the league for McDermott and the club to make their point :?:

Thats exactly whats happening.

Madstad to Nadderud The football is boring. It wasn't that great when the team got promoted last season. We won many games with not playing well. I remember Brian saying often that the team had not found their gear. We are a poor side and should not be in the premiership. This can't carry on despite we're going down because this boring style of play needs a new lick of paint. Move on is definit
ely the words.

Sure we should be in the Premiership; we were champions last season right? Every year three are found to be wanting, but they deserve the chance to try. I think most of the negativity is around the perception that we just didn't (or aren't) trying.

[Snip]

Frankly I find the competition in the C'ship much more compelling than getting promoted and playing the "just need to get 17th and I'll be happy" card. What a crock. The Premier League may be "the best in the world" but not from where I sit; when you can pretty much predict the outcome every season and where the odd upset or a "newboy" or two mustering the ability to stave-off relegation makes big news, that's not very enjoyable in my book.

There, now I feel better.

Very nice post but in hindsight do you not feel you user name was a little misguided?!

Uh yeah, but I was an EPL fan before I took up RFC (in 2004) and before all "the foreign money" started flooding in. In a fit of major uncreativity chose my user name. If I could transition to some other name and take my posts with me I would.

You cant blame Brian for this seasons problems that not fair after all he has done for us !! all he can be held responsible for is:-

1. Summer Transfers (Abysmal ! Shorey apart)
2. Tactics
3. Leaving out players who dare question his selections
4. Playing the worst football seen at this level for years
5. Complete lack of ideas on how to change things
6. Alienating players

hang on that is all of the season problems...........................................

before guthries apology to the players and management(though not to me or the fans who travelled)i didnt want him to ever play again. and i dont think that would have been too much of a punishment.
since then brian is happy with him, and says if hes fit he will be involved. thats good enough for me.

unlike the rest of our divwit fans im happy with idea that a player who has been out for over a month, and has played 45 mins of reserve team football, and has recently refused to play, might not walk straight back into th eteam.

as for roberts he seemed quite happy to talk about his injury the other day on the radio, so thats bollox imo
as for pearce. if hes holding out for daft money, or has been tapped up and wants to go on a free to increase his earnings, im also happy for brian to concentrate on players who do want to be here, and tbf no one knows whats really going on there. not only that, but as much as i like pearce fopr his heart on sleeve passion and commitment, hes not much better than our other defenders, and certainly not so good hes going to sort everything out just by playing

A- walcott has been moaning all season about not getting the game time he wants or playing in the position he wants
B-we dont really know why pearce hasnt been playing.ive not seen anything about him in the games he has played to say hes better than the rest, and if he is off in jan then its better to get the defence together withoit him imo

kebe is god.
he only stopped playing to highlight to the owners how paper thin out squad, before coming back and guiding RFC to safety.

Until we'd beaten Everton we were fairly competitive in most games . And hadn't had our share of luck .

We've been missing a few of our key players : McCarthy ( our best player ) , Karacan , Kebe , and more recently: Roberts.

With all of these fit throughout and a rub of the green, we could be 6 points clear of relegation right now. BM hasn't been far off.

His biggest cock-ups ( and I think these are the biggest cock-ups since he took charge ), are the mis-handling of Guthrie and Pearce. I know there are 2 sides to it in both cases, but he should have done better here. Having said that, if the above 4 had stayed fit we might have been ok anyway. As it is , at least one wheel is starting to wobble .
