Avon Royal Credit where credit is due, today his tactics were much better- it actually looked as if he had adapted our game to nullify theirs rather than go toe-to-toe.
He had a game plan and it was effective. Still has some way to go to convince me that he is the right man for the job, but today was a step in the right direction.

Hoop Blah Guthrie isn't an attacking midfielder as such though, so bringing him in won't really change the shape.

He is a creative midfielder who has a great pass on him. No-one else in this squad has that ability. Karacan, who I rate, is more def.mid, as is Tabb and Leigertwood, and those two aren't good enough at this level in all fairness either.

Totally agree, but just pointing out the actual shape won't change if Guthrie is played in his most natural position.
His presence would add quality on the ball though and I hope his cameo today is the start of McDermott getting the best out of him.

Divvy Indeed, and I wouldn't want the shape to change. 4-5-1/4-3-3 works in the league and I quite fancy it in the Championship if we have the right players for it, but instead of three defensive midfielders, we need one in there with some creativity as well. Then it works for me.

Hoop Blah Although today is a minor success for McDermott, and a rare one he needs to cling onto this season, for me it highlights some of his mistakes this season. Today we saw how we can be resilient and tough to create chances against with this squad of players. Too many times this season that hasn't been the case, especially when defending those leading positions that have proven to cost us so dearly so far.
Having Karacan back must've helped of course, but I hope this is a lesson learned for McDermott.

The best interview I've ever seen from McDermott!

Nowhere in the article does it say he faces the sack though.
