My learned hob nob friends, as there has seen to be a big improvement over the last three matches, obviously in particular not leaking goals, with the window opening soonest on todays showing it would look as though with Guthrie and karacan back in midfield with Guthrie's experience and passing and Karacan's boundless energy, that the wholesale replacements are starting to look a bit over excessive, a central playmaker who can spot a pass for pogs runs, maybe a left back, would you weekly mad stad visitors see the urgency for more ?? poss defensive midfielder as back up ??

Biggest two options for me right now would be :

- a decent defensive midfielder to replace Leigterwood
- a dependable right-back so Kebe doesn't have to spend 90% of the game covering back as an extra RB
- a striker who can play on his own up front comfortably

I was at the game thanks and actually, I can often see stuff better on the internet. If not get as much off the ball detail.

I'm just not getting carried away by a better performance and mostly keeping out a fairly toothless looking West Ham side. I may be being a touch harsh on Pearce and Mariappa, but 8s and 9s? Really?

Mariappa had an excellent game today. Almost played a captains role with his marshalling of the defence etc.

All we need is two midfielders and a defender.

1 defensive as an upgrade from leig and one attacking who sits in the hole to give us an extra tactical option.

And a defender because it seems pearce is probably on his way out.

We won, they didn't, all worthy of a 6 and above

Hope BM sticks with the same team and formation for Spurs. The back 4 were all good today, even Gunter. I thought Guthrie sat too deep which is fine in defence but he was still too deep or too far from Pog in attack. He needs to stop going deep looking for the ball which iirc was the reason BM dropped at the begiining of the season.

Feds 8. Did everything asked of him inc the 2 regulation camera saves.
Gunter 7. Best game for Reading, although kebe helped him out 1st half
Pearce 8. MOM. Immense and has steadied the back 4. Did well to keep his cool against Cole and Nolan.
Mariappa 7. As with Gunter, best game in a Reading shirt. Showed his speed and ability to read the game.
Harte 7. Solid with some good blocks without being spectacular. Pace was never a concern with their tactics. Together with Pearce has brought stability to the back 4.
Ledge 6. Tried harder but still making too many mistakes. His strength looked key defending set pieces which could keep Tabb out.
Karacan 8. Everywhere. End of.
Kebe 8. Survived being targetted and after 30 seconds he knew they were after him. Coped well but ruined some great mazy runs with no final pass.
Guthrie 6. Looks comfortable on the ball but sat far too deep and left Pog too exposed. If Pog is fukked tonight, its Guthrie's fault.
Pog 8. Again, best game in a Reading shirt. Ran all day and didn't give up, with more support going forward he could look even better.
Hunt 8. Did everything asked of him and did it very well.

Rather than give my own scores i'll just say that I think Matt's got it about right ^^

Very hard fought 3 points built on a tireless work ethic. The players have put in real shifts the last three games and i'm glad they finally got a win as they didn't deserve the defeat at Man City.

Pog once again worked his balls off. Kebe once again demonstrated when he's up for it he really is an asset - lots of great defensive work. Karacan is the epitome of tireless running. Pearce was immense.

Poor games for Ledge and Guthrie but you can't have everyone on song all the time.

We were letting in shitloads of goals and since Harte came back three games ago we've only let in one. And that was when he wasn't on the pitch.

I think he's incredible to be honest. Given his age and the level he was playing at, he's enjoyed a remarkable Indian summer since his move to Reading.

I would agree with a powerful ball winner or a genuine anchorman to "replace" Legs and a new first choice right back (which would probably mean selling Cummings, because he'll be easier to shift than Gunter- sorry Shaun). Beyond that, I'm torn between a Gylfi-style link man, or a box-to-box midfielder with more of a goal threat than Karacan, someone in the style of Frank Lampard.

LOVED Kebe's bullet defensive header just before he came off. Thought Ledge was much better today, even though his passing is still a bit shit.

We're playing in one of the best leagues in the world featuring the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal etc, yet it's the games against nothing teams like today's that really get me going!

I'm just so happy we've got the three points. I don't know if it's their brash style of play or just that their support is so full of shite but beating them today felt so good. Yes it wasn't pretty and maybe on occasions we came down to their level but no matter how many times they kicked us or flung themselves to the ground we just kept our heads and more importantly our shape.

Not an advert for football but an enjoyable game none the less, and there's nothing like a sense of injustice to get the Madejski Stadium really rocking.
