Shame about the result but oh well.

On another note, I f**king hate Reading. A grown man probably aged 40 to 50 offered my cousin, who is 14, out for a fight. Walking along to the bus after the match and he bashed into him and then turned around and said a load of crap about how my cousin did it on purpose and then squared up to him. I told him to back off and said he's only 14 and didn't even do anything. His response was that he 'didn't care how fuxking old he was'! Then two WHU fans his age decked him

It's a typical bollocks story made up to make the poster feel better about themselves.

Biggest two options for me right now would be :

- a decent defensive midfielder to replace Leigterwood
- a dependable right-back so Kebe doesn't have to spend 90% of the game covering back as an extra RB
- a striker who can play on his own up front comfortably[/quote]

Thought the MotD highlights made it look rather onesided when it wasn't. But I guess we didn't have a huge number of chances worth showing.

Nice to hear some positive comments from the pundits and Keown bringing it back to us when they went on to West Ham.

Well well well. Brian's pulled his finger out, West Ham are as generous as ever and a narrowly deserved win.

Federici - 8 MotM some really important saves and claims. Kicking was poor today, but you can't have everything.
Gunter - 6.5 we still look a little exposed down the flanks, but he got forward well when he could and didn't defend too shabbily
Harte - 6 miss jumped on two occasions letting them in, plus beaten for pace on at least one other. Don't know why Shorey was dropped for him really.
Pearce - 6.5 good play. Needs to learn to head the ball clear to a blue and white shirt.
Mariappa - 6.5 covered Harte well but also needs to learn to head clear to a blue and white shirt
Karacan - 7 beavered away brilliantly, though arsed up at least one attack with his tunnel vision. Covers more ground quicker than Tabb can so helps cover the fact that our midfield gets pulled all over the shop too often.
Guthrie - 6.5 pretty good alround game I thought, although I found it difficult to pick him out from my seat, so I'm staying fairly conservative. Surprised he was subbed over Legs.
Leigertwood - 4 I actually started counting the number of successful passes he made after 10 minutes of the second half. I got as high as three, two of which were backwards. I understand this was one of his better games. He did at least give Cole a hard time when he drifted deep. Tabb please, even if it leaves us bereft of height in the middle.
Kebe - 8 despite some silly challenges that gave away freekicks and a run where he held the ball too long I thought he was excellent defensively, helping out Gunter and even playing right back for a while. And he worried West Ham going forward and caused them to play stupidly.
McAnuff - 6 another quiet game by his earlier season standards. Some good runs that didn't really come off. The shot that hit the bar was from a lay off from him and he was in the build up to our gift of a goal from Collins.
Pogrebnyak - 7.5 worked tirelessly, feeding off scraps and took the one real chance that came to him. Surprised he wasn't subbed to save his legs. Not a great lone striker, but probably the best we've got, unless ALF gets a chance there and is a revelation.

HRK - 7 can't really defend, but made up for it by keeping the ball in their half when he came on. Nearly scored I think.
Hunt - 6.5 busy busy busy. Helped keep the ball in the corner, not a lot else.

McDermott - 7 finally realised we need to build from the back, yes we'll struggle to score now, but draws are better than losing 3-4 and we'll hopefully nick the odd game now and then.

Ref - 5 blew soft freekicks for them frequently and gave us not a lot similar. Missed several nasty fouls from West Ham, Cole in particular. Nice to see the West Ham fans showing their class and supporting a dirty cheating thug proudly.

This really came at the right time. West Ham are a team we could feel relatively confident against given our record against them and the games last season. Off the back of a good performance and nearly result, with a creditably draw, this win could do our confidence the world of good. If we can build on this with a draw against Spurs, we migh *might* just manage to stay up, though I think it'll more likely be a case of just putting up a reasonable fight of it before going down.

McDermott has now done enough of a turnaround from where we were after Sunderland to convince me we may as well stick with him now. The lesson he seems to have learnt was a oxf*rd long time coming though.

Delighted to hear Bill Oddie coming across loud and clear from the East Stand.

Your Pearce and Marriappa ratings are cringeworthy. What game were you watching!!??

Both awesome in a back four that kept its second clean sheet in a week

Saw one of their fans come charging out of a pub last season and try to attack a Reading fan.
I say try because he failed miserably and ended up pinned to the floor and about to be punched in the face as the police arrived.

Been to a few Reading/West Ham games, including away and they are one of the worst fans in the country. Last time at home we got to the train station and a few managed to get in and kick off with us..one fella had his 10+ year old kid who arms out giving it saying 'come on you Reading c*nts'.....idiots.

Leigertwood is a liability. The sooner McDermott see's this, the better. Our new formation seems to be working at the moment BUT he seems to be the weakest link.

Reading had some nice triangles going today until that useless donkey L,wood got on the ball.

McAnuff needs to shoot more and the so does the team.


Realistically Reading will probably get in 2 premier league old heads and a hungry championship player.

Priority is a replacement for L,wood or a specialist CAM. I would be inclined to go for a CAM and drop Guthrie into L,wood's role. He can tackle and has the obvious passing ability. He would lose the aerial battles though which would be a concern.

We need another striker with pace

And a versatile defender.

This is the only thing that slightly bothers me about today. Kebe was a superb right back! Bt why should he have to?

Well that was a game where tactics went right out the window as soon as O'Brien (who once again proved he's a thug who can only kick people) revealed what the BFS game plan was going to be. It was actually played like a derby/cup game - and they say they don't care about us.

My MOTM was Kebe who took everything they tried on him and didn't react other than getting stuck in. Anyone else notice who helped Carlton Cole over the touchline with the ball after he'd trodden on Gunter and how generous and sporting West Ham were to kick the ball out of play for him to get treatment.

Pearce and Marriappa were outstanding too and Leigertwood had a great game - yes he's not great with the ball but if there was ever a team made for him to play against it's West Hoof.

I have to say well done to the hammers fans though, a majority of whom actually managed to stay and watch this time rather than abandoning their team with 20 minutes to go like their last visit. Although they were then let down by the dickhead who was giving everyone he met the shoulder at the bus stops trying to provoke a reaction - pretty much in the same vein as him team play the game.
