Mark Lawrenson's Prediction for Tottenham Hotspur v Reading

Tottenham are going well. An early burst in the second half against Sunderland won them the game and they cruised to a win over Aston Villa in the game prior.

Unfortunately for Reading they are going to White Hart Lane with Tottenham firing.

The Royals are going to have to try to suppress Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe and, defensively, I don't think they are capable of doing that.

The key for Spurs is to keep Bale and Lennon fit as there is no other team in the league who has their pace and width.

Reading had a confidence-boosting win against West Ham. It was not pretty but it was effective and, when you are in the predicament of fighting relegation that they are in, you just need to win games.

If they can do something in the January transfer window to increase their quality then they will have a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.

Steve Wilson's verdict: Sorry Royals, nothing doing at White Hart Lane, 2-0.

and there was no official connection between H&P and RFC.

and he misses out the funny bit where we got elected to the Southern League and they didn't in 1894.

Yes, I was out by a couple of months on Coley Park - the first Southern League game was at Elm Park.

No Football League existed before 1888-89, so by default every club who won the Fa Cup from 1872 to 1888 was a non-League club.

If there was a game in April 1896 it certainly wasn't played at Coley Park.

Mousa Dembele knows better than to take anything for granted against Reading at the Lane on New Year’s Day.

The Royals are fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the Premier League and responded to that situation with a 1-0 win against West Ham on Saturday.

We secured a sixth win in eight matches to sit fourth in the Premier League going into 2013.

Mousa, outstanding since returning to the side after a hip problem, says the players will be ‘fully concentrated’ as we return to the Lane after back-to-back away wins at Aston Villa and Sunderland.

“We’re back at home and it’s an important game for us against Reading,” he said.

“Everyone expects that we’ll go out there and win but it won’t be easy. We have to be 100 per cent concentrated for this game.”

We came from behind to win at the Stadium of Light on Saturday and Mousa insisted the belief was there that we’d turn it around.

“Everyone knows Sunderland is a difficult place to play, so we’re very happy with the win,” he said.

“We played very well and went 1-0 down, but we all believed if we played the same way in the second half then we’d get a good result. We had a great mentality, everyone trying to motivate each other and it worked.”

He was also impressed with Aaron Lennon’s winner. “It was a great goal. He did it all himself. It was great quality from a great player, one of many players here who can do that and make a difference. Aaron did that.”

As for his own form, Mousa insisted that the form of the team made it easier for him to perform.

“We’re playing well as a team, playing good football and things are going well for me as well personally. That makes it much easier to play my game. Yes, I’m very happy at the moment.”

I think with the 4-5-1 we will be employing, as opposed to the 4-4-2 we used against you guys at the Madejski earlier this season (one of our poorer performances so far), and with our form/confidence being a bit better, this should be a much more competitive game. It also helps us that Bale is suspended...
