Wimb At the risk of upsetting Ian Harte...

Promising signing but do have to worry about why he's come to Reading if he's so highly thought of.

To go from a £15m defensive prospect being watched by Real Madrid, Man Utd and City to a holding midfielder signed by a bottom of the league side for £500k inside 2 years is a bit of a fall from grace.

Obviously teams miss talent and stock falls all of the time, but it certainly seems a gamble rather than bringing in an established talent which is what we need to be aiming for. With around an hours football all season it would be surprising to see him much this month.

The last Portuguese midfielder/defender we brought in was also pretty pants and he cost more

Anyway, hopefully it's another Long/Doyle/Shorey rather than a Cisse/Halford/Sheppard... Also few can be as bad as Ledge right now!

Some more detailed thoughts here.

Why do you put Cisse as a flop? Thought he was great tbh, particuarly in the premiership! The only reason he left was to join up with Coppell and I distinctly remember being miffed when he did go!

winchester_royal The shock on twitter across pretty much all of Europe that we've signed this guy fills me with a strange sense of pride.

Cos although Anton hasn't exactly splashed the rubles on his transfer fee, he has listened to disquiet in the dressing room and made him our highest wage earner.

*jokes* ......... I think.

This seems to good to be true, I just keep telling myself we paid the same amount for him that we paid for Sean Evers...

Don't forget back in Jan 2012 we signed Jason Roberts, who also hadn't played much for Blackburn due to contract issue. We all know what happened next!!

LoyalRoyal22 He is nothing like Cisse.

Appreciate that, was more a point that the scouting we did on Cisse hardly proved to be great and he was touted as technically good as well...

Cisse wasn't terrible but he wasn't an automatic choice in three seasons and was no great shakes at Brizzle either.

Yeh but we have signed the captain of Sporting Lisbon, one the biggest clubs in portugal. Hardly unknown like Cisse was.

Very happy with this. Looks like an excellent bit of business.
Only time will tell of course.

But Carrico built his reputation a few years ago, more recently he's started 16 times in 1 1/2 seasons. I have little doubt how highly thought of he WAS but look at how players like Ireland, Michel Johnson, David Bentley pan out.

I'm very much hoping it's a diamond in the rough, I'd just be a bit wary before thinking we've snagged a wonder kid on the cheap.

hmmm

I am not expecting a wonderkid personally. But a player that will be comfortable at this level

Hopefully he can slot into our 451 in front of the back 4. His vision and passing ability will be on the same wavelength as Guthrie which will help

Next signing I hope is someone who pops straight into the team and improves it.

He can hardly be worse than Leigertwood tbf :D At this stage any improvement is a welcome one.

At the price I cant see the risk, if he isnt up to then not much is lost.

Hopefully we will sign a few more who can go straight into the team.

Hopefully he will stick with us if we are relegated. We should have a fresh team next year if we go down

Fallen out with 2 of the last 3 managers hence why he hasn't featured so much

Doesn't have a relegation release clause.
