The players aren't good enough to take on Spurs and give it a go.

As it was we soaked up huge amounts of pressure reasonably well then had 3 excellent opportunities to score but fluffed them at which point Spurs went down the other end and got a fluke goal.

We are crap at this level for sure, but new ideas from a new manager aren't going to make a difference.

So the players aint good enough to give it a go at spurs but they are against Chelsea,Man Utd & Arsenal

Our problem has been trying to compete as an equal and being torn apart. It doesn't matter if we score 2 or 3 in the process we still lose. I'd much rather see us making ourselves difficult to beat and fairly resilient than just going out gung-ho and losing 6-4.

Thankfully Brian has woken up to this recently and we now look much improved.

We cant keep defending with 9 at the back for 75 mins and then punting it forward to nobody.

I apreciate that spurs are one of the top teams and got lucky with their third but playing so defensive for extremely long periods aint gonna help us that much and i would rather we had more of a go

I do like that post, he wants new ideas so we can go back to an old methodology that saw us lose 7 games in a row. Rather than the new ideas that McDermott is currently employing.

I apreciate that spurs are one of the top teams and got lucky with their third but playing so defensive for extremely long periods aint gonna help us that much and i would rather we had more of a go

We did a lot of pressing against Spurs, way more than we did in those games we got beat out of sight earlier on in the season and the games
away at Sunderland, Villa, Wigan etc.

Brian has learned that's the way forward and it's to his credit. There were even some promising situations when Spurs had to play it back all the way to their goalie
due to our pressing. Brian has earnt more time, we have to go out and beat the teams around us at home though....

last 4 games 4 points and two hard battled losses against top sides, significant improvement, you dont create huge amounts of chances in the prem you just need to be clinical and take them!

No no no - never do that. Knee-jerk reactions, sweeping generalisations and vitriolic rants are what the Internet was made for. It's like one great big cyber bar fight.

A reasonable "backs to the wall" performance by all accounts, but the simple truth is we were so badly underprepared for this premiership and we are certainly not going to stay in it with only between 25 and 30% possetion and only 1 or 2 strikes on target that we have had in recent matches.

The last time we gained promotion to the top league we came up with a squad that had walked the Championship so in reality there was no reason to make wholsale changes, but this time it was quite a bit different, to most of the followers on this site, we looked woefully short in many positions, which has seen to be true, a combination of some very poor summer buys, odd formations and virtually no premiership experience have all added to our present position.

Loyalty to the team that got us up here was always going to be the "Reading Way" but this should have been quickly seen as doomed to fail in the very early part to the season, and action taken before the August window closure, we are the devils of our own downfall, team spirit can only get you so far, then you need quality and ability, the latter two being something we are sadly lacking in bundles. So whether this is down to the manager or the owners who knows ? But eventually the lack of productive results, only 2 wins since April, will end up with the manager either walking away or being sacked, but the latter would need to be done in very quick time, if not done by the end of this month then we might just as well keep the status quo and prepare for the inevitable return to the Champioship.

What concerns me with McDermott is that he only sees thing from one side...on BBRB today he said "we had three clear cut chances ( that if this that and the other had happened, the outcome could have been different)....

McDermott tends to forget the numerous chances Spurs had to add to their tally .....

Keeps bleating on about the goal he states wasn't a goal v Man City.....

All straw grasping to me ....

It wasn't a game Reading were expected to take anything from anyway...so we take the positives and move on
