Barry the bird boggler and was rated as one of the best eight young players in the world in 2011.

Seriously?

From the gossip column on F365:
F365 Reading hope to complete a £400,000 deal for Australia international Tomas Rogic

Barry the bird boggler From here is the city website

3) He rejected the chance to move to an unnamed Australian side during the summer opting to stay with current side CCM where he has scored five goals in 24 matches.

.

Prolific... Heskey is scoring in that league and we all know how good Heskey was in the premier...

Locals have said they don't even rate Heskey in the top 25 players list over there, but Rogic is in the top 3.

He is an attacking midfielder not a striker. But yes you're right, let's pick apart the guy before you even witness him kicking a ball. Cause 400k really get's you a lot these days? Why didn't they sign Ronaldo or Messi..?

Not sold on this signing either, although I'm veering between thinking it could be great and thinking it'll be a massive disappointment. But it wouldn't be a bad thing for him to get a wee bit of PL experience and then perform in the Championship, which is still a better level than the A-League with more exposure. Bit of an over the top article IMO.

I'm not sure how a VISA would be dependent on him playing straight away? What would happen if he got injured, would it be cancelled and the transfer have to be reversed? Or what if we just didn't play him despite giving whoever does the VISA an assurance we would, same thing? Just doesn't sound realistic to me.

Whoever wrote that is making the assumption that he will feature this year when, in all likelihood, he won't play at all.

Wouldn't take too much notice of that article, I've been doing a bit of reading and it would seem our aussie mates think that professional football is like fifa, where you get to pick what club your created player goes too... In reality rogic is a good prospect for the future, but also has the ability to have an immediate impact for us. From what I've heard he is almost wasted in the a-league as he doesn't have the quality around him which the Royals will be able to provide.

If this sort of Reading signing is all we'll be doing, major disappointment in the board and we've learnt nothing.

Having said that I was one of the many who was happy with the gamble of spending little in the summer and now we probably can't get much quality in due to our league position so I'm not complaining.

Overall though considering we're likely to be a champ side next season this will be good business.

Best use our position now as a falling Prem side to attract decent champ players, rather than brak the bank for players who'll disrupt the club and want out when we go down.

I'll remain calm in Brian's judgement and Anton's grand plan.

As long as we buy a left back as a matter of urgency.

Obssessed.

I don't just sit on the fence, if I just sat on the fence I wouldn't get into so many arguments on here. Just because I happen to accept that very little is certain and leave room for new information to change my opinion, or wait until there is a decent amount of information to form a full opinion, doesn't mean I sit on the fence.

From the Danny Graham article in the Mirror:

The manager is still battling to sign Australian midfielder Tom Rogic from Central Coast Mariners.

McDermott tried to sign the 20-year-old last year, but this time is hoping to overcome work permit problems and land the player.

He said: "It's not done yet - far from it. We have to speak to Tom and we will see. If we agree then we have to get a work permit.

"We felt he was a good prospect a year ago and it's the same now. He was here for two or three weeks this time last year and we got turned down on a work permit. If it goes that far again then hopefully we can get him in.

"There's good video coverage of him now and people at an appeal would be able to see that.

"He hasn't actually been playing football for that long. It's a bit like Shane Long -he didn't play until he was 14 and had been playing Gaelic football and Hurling."

I did warn you about the half wits on here!
The worst thing about most of them is that they don't actually know anything about football, apart from how to turn on a playstation! The same morons moaned about shane long (cost us about £65k)!
Like you said, Australia has produced some real world class players, and should have got to a world cup semi final (if the ref wasn't a dodgy git!). £400k is a very modest transfer fee for a player at his age with his reputation.
Being a smaller club is all about gambling on little known players, who end up leaving for big bucks to the wealthier clubs. For me, that's the appeal.
