I think though that he, along with the rest of the club and supporters including almost everyone on here, has been guilty of spectacular naivety about the level of talent needed to play / stay at this level.

Perhaps understandable given that last time we were here Stephen Hunt seemed to be good enough for the league.

NO TRANSFERS - THE READING WAY

by bennno » 07 Jan 2013 14:01

Will 'the Reading way' of offering low, complex, structured, low waged payments for players accelerate our Premier League demise?

Sounds like Rogic has determined he is better off with less pressure in Aus whilst his club have commented on deal proposed, no appearance from Sunzu, no quick signings in. No Huddlestone, Arshavin appearances as muted, need them in now to help notch a couple of wins.

By comparison West Ham already have 3 in and arguably made a better fist in the summer, despite their massive debts and not being promoted till a lot later than Reading.....

Seems laughable now to look back at the summer when it was being muted that following the takeover we would be one of the richest clubs in Europe and people were bandying about names like Long, Siggurdson, Defoe and the like....

Yes, 7th Jan is 7 days in to the window, with West Brom and Newcastle games coming up. We should have been working on a solid right back, defence cover for Pearce or a new contract, a solid CDM and a decent forward.

And that West Ham have made a good enough start that they can be pretty confident of staying up, so can budget on also having PL money next season as well as this.

You should send a tweet to the club, in case they hadn't realised.

Problem is, Reading fans moan about 'buying' success, now you're all moaning about them not spending enough. Make up your minds will you?

Put simply the club needs to financially back the manager and staff in the transfer market, a deadline day signing will miss 3 more matches and probably wouldn't be ready for Sunderland on the 2nd Feb.

FFS Reading FC grow a bit of backbone, bite the bullet, pay the money and get a couple of players in pronto and sort out Pearce' contract.

How do you know they're not working on signing the players you think we need?

Not sure if I should be concerned that I find myself agreeing with a lot of what you say about RFC fans, but I can't argue too much with that. The 'spend more' camp is split between those who want big money signings now, and those who would like to see some steady development. I think Madejski has proven that you can't develop a stable premier league side on the kind of budget at his disposal, but hopefully we can work on the infrastructure with the Russian money whilst remaining competitive around the Champ & Prem until we can launch a real challenge some years down the line.

I guess that's the best we can hope for without hypocritically selling our souls á la Chelsea etc.

Obviously there's bankrolling your club to the tune of hundreds of millions, and then there's not spending any money at all. But there's nothing inbetween, right?

A. its mooted.
B. we have made 1 quick signing
C.what the oxf*rd does that first sentence even mean?
D. i honestly couldnt give a oxf*rd about what west ham have done apart from lose to us every time we play them, their set up is totally different than ours, and id rather we did things the way we do them, instead of the way west ham do them

random people bandying the names of long, sigurdsson, and defoe around is no reason to have thought they might be coming here tbf

Trouble is, it will be difficult to transform players who have - 'a good work ethic' - 'battle and scrap to stop other teams playing' - 'backs to the wall, and hit 'em on the counter' mentality which is completely ingrained, to something fit for 21st C football.

When McD says "we've come a long way", you could be excused for translating it into "this is as far as we're going to get with this side". Even after the inevitable relegation, the club will be mindful of the Rodgers era when the ideas in hindsight were probably right, it was the playing staff with the ability that was lacking. A slow introduction of a few who can play a bit would seem like the only affordable solution but even the championship is a long hard slog of a division to get out of, and promotion back will be difficult and certainly not guaranteed by a long way.

The Infrastructure does need constant attention, but the retail side of football is what happens on the pitch and therefore we need an improved product to sell if we are to compete at the higher end.

Yes I'm new on here but lifetime fan! I have to admit I was buzzing for the zingarevich take over "dreams of championship manager esq signings" but looking at the business since he took over? Maybe I should lend him a fiver as it appears he has nothing left after his wifes last implant! Joke signings and sick of being the frank spencer of the premiership!
