Personally given the lack of quality of our squad i would welcome this signing for a maximum of £2m (and some relegation causes). We have to be realistic he inst the player he was but he is still an uprgrade over tabb and Leg. So from that point of view why not - will he keep us up on his own, No but will he make us a btter team yes. So let's stop benig negative and get behind this one.

cmonurz

You need a reality check winchester.

You're right, a guy who hasn't impressed at this level in 3 years is exactly what we need.

Thanks for providing it :!:

The guy is an unfit Leigertwood. Would much rather see the money spent elsewhere.

Wake up, ffs.

Rhodes, Zaha, Owen, Defoe, Welbeck and now Palacios. All players deemed by some on this board not good enough for our utter shit of a squad. Fcuking hell.

Palacios is a quality midfielder who had an injury then fell out of favour. Big deal.

Not sure what point you're making re Welbeck, but that is a list of players the esteemed of Hobnob have deemed not good enough for our shambles of a squad. It's laughable.

You can look back in hindsight at injuries etc but refusing to face simple fcuking facts like Palacios > Leigertwood, Owen > Hunt, Defoe > ALF and so on is utterly ridiculous.

He was a quality midfielder, he's shite these days. Torres-esque fall from grace.

I wouldn't annoyed about this too much. They will one day use this forum in history classes up and down the country to demonstrate how f*cking retarded 90% of Reading supporters are.

Understand it's a 7 player deal including Scott Howie, Stuart Gray, Paul Brayson, Jimmy Crawford, Paddy Kelly, Jim McIntyre and Robert Fleck

Elm Park Pasty My comment wasn't aimed about Palacios. My comment was about the excited wait for news of star players signing in the Summer that came to not a lot really. I just meant that I was not going to get excited until we have the obligatory cheesy pen writing/shirt holding picture.

Having said that Mr Palacios WAS a £12M player, just as comparably Michael Owen was a £16M player and Fernando Torres was a £50M player. Just because Palacios was worth £12M then does not mean he is the same player now, especially after the debilitating effects of a long standing knee injury. I have no idea how good he could be.

My point is that any player who we can all be confident will have a signficantly positive effect on us staying up is probably out of our reach anyway.

An injury-hit 28-year-old who once looked good enough to be a first-team regular at a club in contention for a top 4 finish? Yeah, I'll take that thanks.

I think you're misunderstanding the difference between a good signing and a guaranteed success. Nobody should be daft enough to think that Palacios is the latter, but his injury record wouldn't preclude him being a good punt for us.

I agree that he could be a good player but I would be concerned if we shelled out big money on someone who has had a long-term injury and may not even be Premier League quality let alone the player he was. I would gladly be proved wrong though.........

I don't think a single person said Welbeck wasn't good enough. Someone asked if he would 'save our season', not the same thing.

Palacios at his best >>> Leigertwood. Palacios of the last 2 years <<< Dean Whitehead. Given we've just brought in TWO new defensive midfielders, I hardly think another one should be a priority.

Hunt's goals this season >> Owen's FWIW

Jim McIntyre!
He was quality in the SPL, then joined us under ?Tommy Burns and was average at best in the english 3rd tier. He went back to scotland and was alright again!
Not sure whether it was tactics, or not settling in the south, but it didn't quite work out that one!
Enough of the speculation, someone must know who this 'major signing' is!

Re Welbeck, it's enough the same thing to warrant my comment. So much negativity on here every time we show a bit of impetus and risk in the transfer market.

Quite who you think we should be buying as a PL team I don't know. Players who come risk free aren't interested in Reading. So what's your big idea? We've seen with Zaha what happens when you aren't prepared to take a gamble on someone. And Rhodes scoring record at Blackburn isn't too shabby, if it's a striker we're after.

We don't know if this Palacios deal will go ahead - if it does, how about we live by that oft used mantra 'Brian knows what he is doing?'
