Are we the most entertaining side in the PL this season?

by MmmMonsterMunch » 13 Jan 2013 12:23

Forget quality of the play or the players for that matter, do others not think that perhaps we've offered up the most entertainment in the PL this season?

The never say die attitude & 'kamikazeness' of it all has gained us a lot of admiration from the neutrals don't you think?

Discuss.

Can't answer that as I'm not a neutral. Match Of The Day viewers and pundits don't have to sit through 82 minutes of shite in the freezing cold to make their decision.

To me it's been fukking awful in the main.

It is like a rollercoaster ride supporting us. You can't say it's dull that's for sure!

I reckon a lot of neutrals are rooting for Reading to stay up personally.

Well I thought last time we were in the Prem we were one of the most entertaining teams to watch. Maybe I'm being bias

Reading have always be able to produce outrageous score lines.

7-4's 6-4's 7-5's.

I think most other fans would like us to stay in the league. Much like Blackpool.

Speaking from the other side of the pond where everyone is either a Man U or Arsenal fan, we have earned some respect. Most of the people I talk to say that they hope we stay up. Of course, these are also people that are usually only watching when it is crazy for us. The game at Old Trafford, the cup game with Arsenal, the back and forth with Fulham (lots of Fulham supporters over here due to McBride, Bocanegra, Dempsey, etc), and comebacks like yesterday are pretty much all they see.

People sitting down watching entire games aren't usually near as entertained because we have such long spells where we seem to go into a shell and just concede possession while trying to make sure the final third is well-guarded. That doesn't win any neutrals. Thankfully, most of them aren't watching those games, they just see the fun times (even though half those go against us).

Earlier in the season, to an extent, but let's be honest, most of the entertainment in the high scoring matches came from Arsenal or Man United. We weren't playing good football, we were just going all out for goals and that was leading to the opposition scoring a lot, as well as us getting more than we otherwise would have (we're scoring a similar amount of goals to Norwich and Stoke but conceding a lot more, we've scored more at home than Liverpool, Spurs, West Brom or Everton).

Over the last half-dozen matches we've gone back to 4-5-1 because we've had everyone fit. Our defending has improved and we're not scoring as many. Earlier in the season we wouldn't have kept a clean sheet against West Ham, we would have conceded a lot earlier against Man City, and so forth- just look at Swansea away as a prime example of us failing to hold a comfortable lead.

So no, we're not the most entertaining. Our matches were the most entertaining, but we're more pragmatic of late.

That's a very good summary actually. Perhaps it should have been entitled are our matches the most entertaining?

No, but we used to allow other teams to be very entertaining against us.

Some of our games have had a lot of goals. But entertaining? Christ no.

People deciding to tune in for game of the day yesterday must have wondered if Sky had put the wrong game on, for the first 80 minutes.

Chelsea 2 - 4 Reading
QPROFL 2 - 3 Reading (League Cup)
Reading 3 - 3 Fulham *First on MOTD*
Reading 5 - 7 Arsenal (League Cup)
Reading 3 - 4 Manchester United *First on MOTD*
Reading 2 - 5 Arsenal
Reading 3 - 2 West Brom *First on MOTD*

Pretty exciting results, I'd say. Not the most exciting players, but definitely a hilariously suicidal wild approach to games earlier in the season.
Definitely more exciting than the three that went down last season.

The 5-7 is currently & probably will be the most talked about game all season bar none.
