JOINED - Giannis Anastasiou (coach)

Ajax coach who we've apparently been talking to about a coaching role

Talking to a coach about a coaching role.

I think Pepe was only stating it because some of our fans like to jump to conclusions

It's good to see that the club are thinking of bringing in a coach who might bring the attack some new ideas. About time too.

I wouldn't say Anastasiou was prolific in his playing days, he spent a lot of time in Holland. But he has worked under some top class managers and is young so might get along with the lads quite well.

Additional coaching staff is something we've been crying out for since, well since Brendan Rodgers and his team left.

I assume he would be brought in to help out with the new 4-1-4-1 system

Has also been an assistant manager of a team that regularly takes part in European club competitions.
Beware Brian this could be a challenger for your job-younger and well versed in the passing game at Ajax and presumably reasonably well connected around Europe.
I wonder what he would/will make of our way of playing the game-words like "welly it" and "get rid" may be new to him.

Could be interesting and will certainly breathe some fresh ideas around the place which can't be bad. So team him up with Bryn as a coaching pair and we're all set for when/if Heston and Nigel get the push at some point in the future.

Good stuff, hope he brings good knowledge.

Presumably he's an attacking coach?

( we could do with another defensive coach as well)

cant we go and get that bloke that used to be at Barcelona now, he says he fancies a shot at the Prem, if he helps keep this team up then Liverpool will be calling in the summer.

We're just a stepping stone unfortunately, will be good for 6 months though.

This is logical, the clubs announcement references his ability to speak 5 languages which is perhaps a signal of our intent to start to bring in more international players for whom English is not a first language.

Who knows perhaps we might be adding some Spanish players to our new Portuguese signing....

I'll take anything that helps get us out of the bottom 3 on May 19.

So we brought in a new addition to the coaching staff, surely any new ideas will be beneficial, although I don't know a great deal about him. Hopefully he don't use the term "HOOF"

Bad ones won't.

He's worked within the youth setups of two of the finest football academies in the world, one of which is famously anti-HOOF.

Obviously bad ideas won't be beneficial, no need to be pedantic. Surely our tactics could not get any worse

We could consider a different point of view, keep the coaching staff on their toes. I think it's a progressive move. Mr Anastasiou has certainly done a decent apprenticeship.

I'm more than happy with this. Hopefully someone with fresh ideas coming in will prove very beneifical.

I do wonder though, is this BM's idea, or was he under a lot of pressure and perhaps close to the door, and Anton suggested someone coming in to help out, freshen things up, bring new ideas, tactics, training methods.. nothing more than spaculation, but I'd be interested in hearing BM's thoughts on it.
