14 years..........

by Gordons Cumming » 16 Jan 2013 12:27

...................since that fateful day.

http://www.royals.org/matdoc/160199.html

At half time I thought Roberts was crap.

Left at 0-5.

What a team that was, wonder where they all are now (except Parky of course)...

Howie, Glasgow (Bernal), Clement, Kromheer, McPherson, Parkinson, Caskey, Houghton (Sarr), Gurney, Brayson (McIntyre), Williams

Poor Andy Gurney was making his debut, notable absences were Casper and Brebner.

flew back into Heathrow that morning after 4 months in Oz watching the Ashes.

Was rather looking forward to seeing the Royals after being starved of watching since late September.

Left at 0-4 i think...

Left at 5-0. Met the Mrs in town and went to watch Meet Joe Black :|

Worst day ever.

I remember that. Everyone had left including all the journalists so the result published was 0-6

Watched it right through to the end and said we should be signing Cureton!

I had already said previously that we should be signing Roberts! Wrote to the club when he was making a name for himself at Hayes. What took them so long?!

I stayed until the death :|

It was a particularly unpleasant experience as their lot belted out several of the "can we play you every week" chants that were doing the rounds then, total nightmare.

Amazing thing it was still 0-0 at half time. Burns did nothing and the flood gates opened in the 2nd half. Left at 4-0 horrible day. I remember Burns just laughed it off as one of those things!

Stayed until 0-5, heard the 6th go in, thought we'd scored, so ran back in, only to see 6-0 on the old scoreboard....
To make it worse, members of my family still had very close ties with Rovers and their management - They saw fit to ring me that evening, just to really rub it in.
Easily one of the darkest days I've had supporting this club.

Still.....look how our paths have changed :)

When I saw Cureton that day I thought he 'd a great player to sign for Reading.

Funnily I didn't have the same feeling about Roberts. Thought he was a bit of a donkey.

Took a mate to that game. 1st time he'd been to the Mad stad. Never, ever went again.

That's a pretty dire line up. No wonder we were shit.
