Not a surprise that the Saints are now getting results in the Premier League and climbing the table.

Last season they were one of the best teams in Championship and should have won the League, they played a style of football that would do them well in the Premier League providing they tightened up at the back which they have now done.

There left back 17 year Luke Shaw is a fantastic prospect, I look forward to seeing this guy step up to play for England in the future to replace the ageing Ashley Cole.

Agreed, they're in a much better position than us but that's because they have a fantastic academy and far superior infrastructure in comparison. It will take us years to be able to get to the size of club that they are, and those years need to be filled with continued investment rather than blowing all our money in the first 6 months. Of course, it helps them that they had a mega rich chairman who pegged out and left a load of many in the club. They have better players, a bigger stadium, a more prestigious name, and a successful playing style already integrated into the squad. Absolutely no surprise to see them above us, for me the only surprise is that it's only 6 points.

Saying that, would I want to be a Saints fan? F*ck no..Reading till I die.

Seems to be a decent rumour. Tweeter from Talksport Alex Gore Crook or summat is predicting Adkins is to be replaced today by the coach of Espanyol. The owner of SFC Cortesa has apparently wanted this to happen for some time. Spanish press are predicting this to happen as well apparently.

Would be funny yes.

It was tongue in cheek; don't piss your mum's pants about it. The point is nobody is advocating spending the club into bankruptcy. As always, in order for detractors of investment to gain any kind of foothold in the argument, they have to carry their opponent’s proposition beyond its natural limits.

Obviously spending money like it was pieces of paper you’ve crudely drawn colossal numbers on in biro isn’t quite what people like myself wish Reading would do.

What would have been nice to see this summer was a bit more investment. Spending doesn’t guarantee remaining in the prem, but it IS the approach which gives you a chance and combined with transfer nous a touch more risk could have seen our return get off to a better start. It’s about taking the calculated risk, investing for return. Turning our noses up at a 3-5m player, plus wages for example – sorry, I don’t buy into the idea that that would have bankrupted the club and I don’t buy the notion we lack the ability to spend that.

I like the fact we are prudent and shrewd and don’t want us to spank millions on big names. I’m just disappointed once again to see obvious and undeniable under investment cost our club a place in the top tier. You can drag that to the nth degree if it makes it easier for you to argue against, but you’d be having a different argument and be failing to address mine.
